Sorry haven't had that problem.

I like IE 7.  It beat the heck out of the old version.  I might go with firefox in the future, but IE 7 works weel for now.

Windows forces me to use IE for links that are selected from IM's and eMails... and I can't change it. It drives me fucking crazy that MS website and Vista help is wrong about how to uninstall... there is no option to remove it!

It doesn’t force me. Opera is set as my default browser and that is what links open in.

When I go to the section that allows me to select which programs opens links, the option is greyed out... this sucks!

Are you going to "Control Panel" then "Default Programs" then "Set Your Default Programs"?

I've tried all of this and I cannot de-select the IE choice for internet URL's... its frustrating as hell.

What other browsers do you have installed?

I'm running Vista and absolutely HATE IE with a passion!

So I installed Netscape 7.1 and life is good.  (Current Netscape version is 9.)

Why install the older version?   Because it has a good email client in it.   If there's an
email client in Nedscape 9,  I couldn't find it...so I uninstalled it and reverted to 7.1.

Internet Explorer sucks ass.  I'll NEVER use it.

I'm not communicating what my problem is.
The problem, is that I CAN NOT tell windows NOT to use IE for internet shortcuts, and I CAN NOT uninstall it.

when you install a new browser,  the first time you open that browser it asks if you want it to be the defalt browser.

if yours isn't working uninstall it and reinstall.

if it still doesn't work check the preferences for the browser as well

You cannot uninstall IE7 in Vista... PERIOD.

What other browsers do you have installed?

None of this works - I think this is a bug w/the MSDN x64 DVD ISO for Vista Ultimate.

Running x64 is your first clue that you've made a horrible error.

That you can't understand the questions that people are asking leaves me wondering what you're doing with MSDN.

You should talk to SubMOA about "borrowing" MSDN. If you aren't a subscriber, you don't have a license to install it.

Vista is cheap enough; if you want it, pay for it. Stop stealing.

Whoa guys - this is an absolutely unnecessary tone to take; and forgive me for not making this clear, however I work in IT and have over 9 years professional experience.

As best I can tell --- this is an ACTUAL bug -- please also forgive me for assuming that you guys could trust my comments before your basic help-desk 101 support 'doesnt cut it' knee-jerk responses.
