Again, this is hypothetical. Let's say you were going to be in a gunfight with a shooter of average skill. However, you choose one aspect of his equipment.

You can either take away his red dot optic, or you can limit him to 10 round magazines.

All other variables unknown and uncontrollable. Which would you take away from him? The red dot, or the 30 round mags?

Neither. Take his eyes.

Yeah, it's against the rules but if you aint cheating you don't want to win anyway.

misread question, i guess limit his magazines

If I take away his red dot optic, does he have back-up irons or a 10x mill-dot scope that is properly sighted in?  If not, then that is a no-brainer.  Take away his ability to shoot straight.  Then put a lot of distance between us.

He has irons if you take the red dot. The gunfight could be at day or night, and weapon lights are an unknown.

His damn ammo is in backwards in his mags.... Bam bam bam, I got you MFr.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 8:21:59 PM EDT
I assume this involves rifles, so I'd take his sight and stay at a distance where my optical sight gives me an advantage.

I would have him use crap ammo, over pressure, extremely out of spec headspace, crimps too tight and/or loose, bullets seated too shallow and too deep, stored improperly, decades old, etc. and hope for a kaboom.

In all reality, the fight will be over in the first handful of rounds anyway.

Scratch that, he has to use a single shot break action gun. Pistol or rifle, don't care.

I'll take the big mag, then use it to keep his head down while I GTFO.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 8:34:28 PM EDT
I take away his ammo.

Average skill?  I don't take "average" skill to mean that they would be effective with iron sights.

I see people with red dots and/or scopes who STILL shoot like crap.  Imagine how much worse they'd be without that crutch.

Take the optic, leave the mag.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 9:07:12 PM EDT
Neither. I'd kill him with kindness.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 9:11:21 PM EDT
I would simply bring a trained, adult attack chimp and a video camera......Pofit and hilarity will commence.

Take red dot.
Average shooters are pretty terrible shooters.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:02:57 PM EDT
I'd take his "No Justice, No Peace" sign....

Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:03:22 PM EDT
Double tap.

Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:05:07 PM EDT
Id take away his willingness to come outta this gun fight alive.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:10:08 PM EDT
I would take away his firing pin
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:15:49 PM EDT
If it's in NY I'd call in for the $500 reward for putting 10 rounds in his magazine.

The govt. tells me 7 rounds is plenty deadly enough, so I guess volume isn't relevant.  Take the red dot.

Take away the gas system, give him a god awful barrel that keyholes, make it a ruger mini-14/30
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:30:00 PM EDT
Shoot him when I come to pick up his red dot
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:31:58 PM EDT
Depends on the range but really I'd take the optic. First guy to get shot usually loses. Only takes one round.
Link Posted: 7/24/2013 11:35:06 PM EDT
Take the red dot - then put him down long before he can squeeze off more than 10 shots.

I've noticed a lot of mediocre shooters whose abilities seem to improve with the use of a red dot sight. To me, it indicates lack of skill with the iron sights.

If I was going up against an 'average' shooter, I'd take away the item that most likely gives him the biggest advantage, and that is the sight.

If anything, in my experience, high capacity mags tend to bring out the 'spray and pray' mentality in unseasoned shooters. More rounds in his mag might just equal crappier, sloppy shooting.
