(Reuters) - A cruise ship with 172 passengers and crew members suffering from a gastrointestinal ailment caused by norovirus was met by public health officials when it docked in California on Sunday, authorities and Carnival Corp said.

The outbreak marks the second time in less than a year that the highly contagious virus has spread on the company's Crown Princess ship, which is part of its Princess Cruises fleet. On the latest trip, the ship carried more than 4,100 people on a cruise that departed nearly a month ago from Los Angeles and included stops in Hawaii and Tahiti.

I don't mind river cruises, but forget ocean cruises. I want to see new towns and cities, not water. If I wanted to see water, I'd take a freighter or tanker.

You think brands like Seabourne, HAL and Cunnard are like double wides? I ave been on HAL, its far from redneck double wide cruising.

Someone with an advanced degree and thousands of computers might be able to figure out what the problem is with that ship. Or someone might want to get the crew manifest from this year and last year and start crossing checking and see if there are any cross matches and maybe asks those who are on both manifests about their health leading up to those two cruises. Not a guarantee or anthing, and maybe those corporate bag munchers might want to start requiring vaccinations and a medical questionaire for their shipboard employees.... "have you been sick so back you almost shit your lower intestines in the last week.....???"

I am clearly no expert, but something has got to give with the cruise industry when it comes to this kind of clownshow shit.

This time of the year Noro is going crazy in South Florida. Princess attracts an older crowd, many whom live in closed up communities. Princess has Noro issues every November. Both I went on had it onboard as well. The HAL cruise I did in an early December had it also.

Carnival ships folks are too pickled to get it lol. Been on a few and never had a problem. Only Princess and HAL and the RCCL Monarch of hte Seas some years back. NCL I was just on didnt have a problem either but the crowds are a good measure younger then Princess and HAL as well.

You can get a free cruise this time of the year. My parents just had one on Carnival last month. I was offered one but trned it down as I already had NCL booked. Prices are bottomed out for the season. All the old folks get on the ships and bring it with them. I just got a 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Getaway for $475pp for a balcony room. Thats nuts.

But from my personal observation, its brought on by the older folks who take advantage of the low prices right now.

Exactly. With good friends or family, its a blast.

I have been on HAL, Princess, RCCL, NCL, and Carnival and every one has been great. I cruise a few times a year so I got stock.

Bought in at $24 per share and sold half at $37 during the Costa sinking. I get $100 onboard credit with each booking (any Princess, HAL, Carnival, etc) Its $41 now I think. Its paid for itself almost now in onboard credit.

Old geezers on average, don't wash their damn hands after using the restroom. I was at bass pro shop a few months back. Someone was dropping a deuce in one of the stalls. Then they exit the stall and walk right out of he bathroom without washing their hands. Dude appeared to be in his 70's, I was speechless.
