My wife related a story to me that her friend told her.  It went something like this:
Guy was driving in the bad part of Indy (I know, first mistake) and had a flat tire.  He pulls off and starts changing his tire.  Two indigenous fellows walk up and offer to help change his flat.  He politely declines and they hang around.  He finishes changing his tire and one of them asks for money for helping change his tire.  At this point, what do you do, assuming that you are carrying?  I'm sure as hell not paying them anything.  Do you just try to get into your car and drive off while keeping an eye on them?  Immediately "draw down"?

The funny part of this story is that eventually the two goblin wannabes got into a fist fight so the guy hopped in his car and left.

Drive off.  No reason to clear leather at the point you describe.
