Someone posted this a couple days ago.  He is seating the bead on the tire, we used to do it in the army a lot.

Still pretty cool.

What is he spraying on the tire/rim?

nothing redneck about it

it's just how you re-seat a bead on the trail

Been there done that.

Probably ether (engine starting fluid), possibly wd-40.  As long as it's got a flammable accelerant it will work, pretty much.  That's how you reseat a bead when you're not in a garage.

Thanks.  That is something I'll file away.

I would guess Starting fluid or brake cleaner. I dont think WD-40 has the "explosive" properties of the mentioned fluids.  It will "flame up" right out of the can, but it just burns if sitting on a surface.

I learned that 20 years.

Don't do it if you have been drinking

I haven't watched it but I'm willing to bet Ether. Old farming trick.

ETA: It doesn't inflate it, just seats the bead.

Reminds me of the trick I used to use to get springs in. Compress spring, tie with coat hanger in compressed position, place in suspension and cut the coat hanger with a torch, sproing!

Brake cleaner or carb cleaner, or starting fluid.

Done that many a time.

Never gets old.

I remember Clarkson doing that on Top Gear in Antartica or somewhere.

yeah I've done that a few times - did it on a Case 580 backhoe rear tire one time - that will keep you on your toes.  The other day my dad told me in the 60's he used to run his trucks on propane AND that's what he put in his tires because he worked in the desert and the propane was handy...  it is amazing he has lived 70 years with some of the crazy stuff he's pulled

Nothing RedNeck about it whatsoever. Just some liberals who think that "Farmer Joe" in the woods can't get his tires inflated like proper people.

Try seating the bead on those large tires like you would normal tires and it won't work. Out in the woods, it's the best and most efficient way.

Just make sure you pull the valve core before you do that!

What is it about pulling the valve core.  it would seem that would let the pressure out and prevent the bead from sealing.

Please give the Why to pulling the valve core prior to the "Flambe Bead Seal"

You can also use a ratcheting tie-down strap to help seat a stubborn bead, if you have access to an air-compressor, onboard air, or a compressed air tank.

Just wrap it around the tread of the tire, and fill tire as you would normally. When the bead is set, you can take the stap off and finish airing up the tire.

Doing the ether and match trick on large tires can be dangerous. Someone mentioned backhoe tires...

Been there. Done that.
