Ive always wondered how this drum type magazine works.  I say make them for the AR and AK!

Very interesting variant of the HK23,  referred to as the HK73.  It features what has been described as a linkless feed system that holds a box similar in shape to a linked belt box, but as you can see in this photo, clearly different.  It is said to hold 150 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, and is loaded with stripper clips.

Detailed photo of the HK73 linkless feed magazine.  150 round capacity.

Works like a Thompson drum

How so? A thompson drum is a rotary type drum with ammo pockets? I cant see how, with the winder in the upper left and the placement of the of pins/rollres that can be?

Because they both work on the principal of magic. You put the ammo in, twist the knob and the rounds magically pop out when you need another one.

(Acutally, I fogot to put the smiley in my first post )

oh THAT thompson drum

Looks like the rounds ride in a track that has the case taper pre-molded in, track zig-zags upwards firing, with the "empty part" of the track going straight down to the bottom.

Basically, a big loop of track wound back over itself on guides (to keep rounds from falling out on the "upside down" sections of the zig-zag, but I am not quite sure where or how the spring tension engages the track to move 150 rounds...

Gear ratios my guess.
