I was thinking about my trip tomorrow and it dawned upon me that nearly all of my shooting trips are solo. Although that in part is due to the fact that I frequent a piece of land rather than a range, the other part is due to the fact that I think it is therapuetic and relaxing to go by one's self. Eh?

Every time, if I can help it.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:37:46 PM EDT
I'd say it's around 50/50 for me. Usually if I'm not alone, it's with one other person. Today we had 5 people though.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:38:08 PM EDT
most of the time
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:39:04 PM EDT
Every couple weeks as time allows. Best stress relief in the world is to sit at the bench with a .22 and throw a few hundred rounds at an old spinner target from 100 yds with an old tasco 3x9. Nothing more theraputic in the world.

Nobody else is on my schedule, so I'm nearly always by myself. Good when I want to work on something, but bad because I want other people to critique what I can't see for myself.

funny, that's the exact reason I don't want others with me

I rarely go by myself.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:43:00 PM EDT
Most of the time. I dont own land, or even really know people that do. Its kinda lame.

Most of the time, especially in winter since it's an outdoor range. If there's other people using the range I like to have friends along so they can watch the other shooters for stupidity. If no one else is there I prefer to be by myself. No one else likes to stay as long as I do

bout 75%. I usually will call an old friend if I plan on going that day, tell him he is welcome to join me. I really enjoy taking newbies that I trust, especially girls.

But I love it when im on my own scedule and I can relax and shoot as long as I want with an old 22.

ETA I love getting together with the local ARFCOM crew, there the only people I find that actually want to shoot for as a long as I do!
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:51:35 PM EDT
70% myself I'd say. I try to bring people if I can.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:51:51 PM EDT
I usually go with a friend or meet some local arfcommers.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:53:00 PM EDT
I read this so wrong.

How often do you think about shooting yourself

Had me worried for a second.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 9:57:22 PM EDT
I'm usually alone or go with member CajunMojo. Been wanting to make one of the local arfcom shoots, but usually end up offshore when they schedule em :/

Thats what I read as well.

I usually go by myself, my Dad goes with me when he can though. I dont really know anyone else I would want to go with anyway.

Prefer by myself. Most just want to shoot my ammo and not contribute, gets annoying. Leaving the wemon behind also makes it cheaper too, handed my sister an AK with 2x40 stacked swear to god she dumped both clips in 12 seconds and did not hit shit, managed to scare me enough to not take her back out with her gunhandling too, and yes I went through safety and handling multiple times. If their not mooches they are often distracting, or worse yet know-it-alls. Military freinds are the worst though thier lack of handling skills are scary. Took my 10yo niece out once that was fun.

I am a Social Shooter, I shoot alone or with people

It really dont matter to me
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 10:31:14 PM EDT
Funny, I go out shooting with people but come back alone.

Hmmm.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 10:35:24 PM EDT
I barely ever shoot by myself. I always try to bring a friend or family member along.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 10:55:45 PM EDT
Mostly by myself in my back field set up as a range. Occasionally I bring my brother in law or nephews but not my wife's brother in law any more..... last time the idiot was spinning around with an H&R 410 shotgun on his shoulder finger on the trigger and hammer cocked( unloaded) when he covered me with the muzzle I ducked and told him not to cover me with the muzzle, decock it and get your finger off your trigger HUH? I was less polite after that

more bros to go with the more fun we have
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 11:10:50 PM EDT
Im the only one in the family that has time to go shooting on a regular basis so about 85% of the time its me.
Link Posted: 12/30/2005 11:14:01 PM EDT
All the time, that is why i am looking for ND members to hang with.

You wouldn't mind taking Feinstein and Chucky along with you would you? Just this once? For the children?

99%of the time I am alone when I go .

And I call BS . The most therapeutic is racking the 12 gauge and blowing away soda can after soda can .

I used to have a group of guys at work who I converted to the dark side (BRD) and we would regularly go shooting together. That all ended when we were laid off and now work for different outfits with different work schedules.

My favorite shooting buddy is my 13 yr old son. Since my days off are during the week we rarely get to go shooting together when he is in school, but in the summer we go often, or when days off from school coincide with my days off we hit the range!

I often think about going alone during the week while he’s at school but always change my mind……..it’s just not the same, or as fun, with out him.

Until the kids get older, it's just me. I can't even go with my wife because the time, traffic, and travel distance involved exceeds the comfort zone for a baby sitter looking after a 4 year old and an infant...
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 4:56:16 AM EDT
I always go alone.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 5:10:32 AM EDT
80% alone,due to schedule.
Fun though, when we get a good group together, and get to play with other people's toys.

I try to go out to the range at least once a week and I'm usually alone.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 7:31:28 AM EDT
Almost always. Having other people around limits your actual training time, and unless they are equally as serious about doing actual training, the session devolves into a plinking/ recreational shooting session.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 10:51:11 AM EDT
Most of my shooting is for load development, maximum accuracy. Therefore:

Don't talk to me.
No, you may not borrow any ammo, weapons, equipment
Don't talk to me about the game
No, I am not hungry-thirsty-bored
Yes it is more difficult than it seems...
Yes we can stop to eat on our way home
Five more minutes
HOW THE H... DID YOU MISS THAT SHOT! (no comments from the gallery please)

I prefer to shoot alone.

maybe 3 or 4 times a year I have someone with me. thats when Dad comes in or I go to IL to visit him. other than that always by myself
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 3:02:58 PM EDT
Better than 50% but probably doesn't exceed 75%.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 3:53:10 PM EDT
Im 16 so...going to the local rifle range to shoot my M1A might get me in trouble..
But if i was older i would probably go by myself unless a relative asked to go.

I usually go it solo, but I never turn a friend down if they want to tag along.

ETA: I or we, always go out in the desert somewhere, hardly a range.

Man... I'm supprised. I try to go with other people, but about a third of the time, I just end up giving up on everyone who says they'll make it, then "has a change of plans" the day we were planning to go.

I definitely don't mind shooting with myself. I'm more productive.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 4:13:52 PM EDT
I went alone today, shot 100 rounds through the M1A and came back home. Not very eventful, spent the first 20 rounds trying to see where my rounds were going since I was shooting at a gong the entire time. We ended up making music later on.
