I just got my light bill. I used 1544 kWh's this month for a total of $235.73.
I get down to 550 kWh in the winter and nearly 1900 kWh in the summer. Houston summers are brutal.
I USE THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THREE BUILDINGS, MY HOUSE, MY GARAGE, AND MY WHAREHOUSE.
I just got the bill the other day and wondered what other people were using too.
We are always under 500kwh a month. |
750 or so, bout 75 bucks in the summer, bit more with the electric heat and higher rate in the winter
My current bill I just paid today was 685 KWH, for a total of $58.24.

Bill last month was $16. That's about 160 KWH.
It'll be a tad more this month - Had to use the A/C a little bit... |

I've thought about buying a window unit just for the bedroom but even with the nasty temps last week we got by with our fan. Just me and my wife though, when we have a kid/s that may change. |

371.9 kWh this week for a cost of $46.47; last week was a bit more, 451.9 kWh for a cost of $56.48.

Last month was 159 kWh for $21.93, month before was 154 kWh.
The town I live in now does the electric. Last place I lived it was nstar and cost three times as much for the same amount of power. |
Our highest bill was last winter - 8834 KWH / $815.65. Usually it's pretty high, but by high I mean around $300. Found out one of the heat pumps was malfunctioning and costing a fortune.

This month and last year's same month average out to about 500 kWh
Cost is about $80 I run the A/C a lot, and have electric heat, hot water, stove, dryer etc. But things like doing a lot of loads of hot water wash, long showers/many people taking showers etc. can make a big difference. Average temp this past month (day and night) was about 80* with daytime highs over 90 most days. House is about 1350 square feet or so. I also have a recent A/C, recent refrigerator, and some other minor improvements. For CT, I think something is wrong for you to get bills like that (and kWh usages like that)....dying A/C, really bad insulation, leaky ductwork, lazy kids who leave everything running, running a welder often, who knows....but I think you should look into it. There seems to be free money there for you if you can find a way to catch it. |

My dryer sucks it takes 2-3 times to dry a full load. No kids, just me and the GF |

I use a shitload. I'm not sure exactly how much I use because I only pay 24 bucks each month to my apt. It's a hell of a deal. I don't leave lights on or do anything seriously irresponsible, but I don't have to worry about keeping the apt. at a certain temp in the summer to save money. I keep it how I like it!!

We are all electric, well, furnace, stove, a/c, H2O heater, everything. Ours is about $350-400 a month. We have a pretty big house and two kids, plus a barn and a 50x60 shop on the bill, so I think it's ok.
I use as much as I want for whatever I am doing at the time and don't give it a moment's thought ......... because I am an American, and a real American should not have to worry about how much electricity they are using. That's something for 3rd world Euros to stress out about.
God Bless American Coal. |

Quoted: I get down to 550 kWh in the winter and nearly 1900 kWh in the summer. Houston summers are brutal. Just the opposite for me in Anchorage. My current bill for June is 144 KWH @ .09856 for $14.19. In January it was 1047 for $103.19 |
We spend about 400.00 this time of year and about 200.00 in the winter. We have six of us most of the time and five of them are women ( lots of laundry )
and this the hotest summer I can rember. |
You all with low electric bills do you also you gas?
$167.88 1,892 KWH |
860kwh for May. I've got a pretty large house, with two AC units. Electric stove, but gas water heater and dryer. $88 for the month.
All electric house - well, water heater, chest freezers (2), etc. Has been hotter than usual this year so far and I keep the a/c set at 76 degrees and I cool my attached garage with 10' ceiling and no insulation in the ceiling there. Just got the bill - 999 kwh and $106.
Quoted: Is that from CL&P or UI or some other electric company? Norwich public utilities. |
Your rate per kWh sounds low for Connecticut... Interesting...
I think the highest I've hit in the last couple years was around 1500kWh once or twice during the year. I think my average overall is around 1000kWh/mo.
Will be interesting to see how it is this year, since I work third shift and run the AC all fookin day. I did switch to a cheaper energy provider... saving me about 30%. |
Quoted: You all with low electric bills do you also you gas? $167.88 1,892 KWH My house has a CNG furnace, and it kicks ass! In the winter, my electric bill is somewhere around $40. The gas bill peaked at about $120, IIRC last winter, because we had some RECORD cold around here. |
Typically 300-500 kwh a month. I've never paid over $60. IIRC 1 kwh is $0.07 here.
I use space heaters in the winter to warm the room I'm in so I don't heat the whole house with NG. I don't have AC but Utah has a low enough humidity for an evaporative cooler. That helps keep my watt usage low. The NG bill also drops from ~$100/month in the winter to ~$15 in the summer (gas water heater). That all usually gets offset by the water bill going from $40 in the winter to $100+ in the summer. |

My dryer sucks it takes 2-3 times to dry a full load. No kids, just me and the GF I'd start with the dryer. I think you have some major lint blockage going on in the vent pipe. That's the most common reason for a dryer to take a long time to dry a load. It also costs a lot for electricity. Get one of the flexible rod-brush deals for cleaning lint and run it through the vent and I'll bet you find a dead squirrel, a massive fuzzball, etc. Remember, a dryer uses up to 2200 kW (like a welder on high current) so they can mess up your power bill PDQ Plus, a blocked vent hose can often be a major fire hazard. If the dryer vent is through some corrugated flex hose, replace it immediately with rigid vent pipe (stovepipe). That helps a lot with the lint issue, as well as making clothes dry faster. I took out a bunch of white vinyl flex hose and replaced it with a straight run of galvanized stove pipe, after having to replace thermal fuses etc. in the dryer. It works much better now though I don't have before/after power bills. |

As an aside, I live in a 2183 sq. ft. townhome built in 2005; my utility bills here are (not a lot, but a little) lower than they were in the 440 sq. ft. 1960s-built apartment I moved from. |

Wife and I use about $50 a month. It would be even less if I had a gas stove rather than electric.
Just changed to star-tex, saving 30% of what Reliant was charging.
2500/$225 for June - about $.09/KWh 3500 KWh is the most I've ever used, I'm a happy camper now |
