Well how much?
I'm guessing its enough. |
Well that shows you how tier 100 I am, I didn't know there was such a thing.
$100 in gold, $100 in rubles, three pair of nylons, one lipstick,.....................
I've never heard of that. Back in the day pilots used to get gold sovereigns in their kit for bartering/bribing the local populace, don't know if that's still the case. In Bravo Two Zero Andy McNab said the SAS apparently also kept gold sovereigns on their person for the same reason.
Whether or not it's current practice any more I dunno. I'd think a fat wad of Euros would be a better choice really. How's some reprobate, living in a mud hut know how much gold is in a sovereign and what it's worth? Or if it's even real. |

Allegedly in the left cargo pocket. Some form of currency is in there to bribe to get the f out of bad places when mission goes shitty. |

Howard Wasdin said in his book "a couple hundred". So I would assume 2-300 bucks.

I thought they were all issued Rolexes as part of that.
Or was that the CIA? Rolex is legal tender worldwide. |
Complete bill of materials for his kit: - One forty-five caliber automatic - Two boxes of ammunition - Four days' concentrated emergency rations - One drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills - One miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible - One hundred dollars in rubles - One hundred dollars in gold - Nine packs of chewing gum - One issue of prophylactics - Three lipsticks - Three pair of nylon stockings. |

I used to carry $500 in cash. I know a guy who contracted before Iraq and Afghanistan back when it was more being a mercenary than contractor. He wears a large gold wedding band (not his actual wedding band so no emotional attachment) with 4 or 5 diamonds in it and a rolex. You can get a ticket out of just about anywhere with those two things.

That sounds like a good night in Vegas. It was a good night in Dallas, until JFK was shot. Then they over-dubbed Vegas in the place of Dallas. Next time you watch it, read his lips. They can't fix that. |

Yep. $100 in gold in in 1955 would have been roughly 2.5 Ounces. Today, that $100 would be worth about $4,200. Realistically though, pre-inflationary gold would only be about $2,000. Yes, I just said that the value of gold is only worth about half what it is going for now. |
