I know alot of the tinfoil hat guys won't want to say anything, but I saw the other guy posting that he "found" $6k in his, so obviously some of us are crazy enough to post this kind of thing.

I currently have about 5 weeks pay (before taxes and my recent raise) in my acount.  This seems like alot to me, and I would like to do something more productive with this money.  My financial paranoia keeps telling me that if the AC breaks, it'll cost me $3k to replace, and I better be able to get that money from somewhere.  Those of you that keep balances near 0 (on purpose, lol), what would you do in a situation like that?

I don't have a checking account.  I pay for everything with coins, that way the government can't track my purchases.  It's tough to get my boss to pay me in quarters, though....[rolleyes]

Anything more than I need to pay bills usually gets put into a savings account, so at least it can draw interest. Most times though, there isn't much after bills. And when there is, there is usually some "must have" toy waiting for it...

i don't think five weeks is too much. if you had to leave your job tomorrow..for whatever reason...youd likely only have a month or two before that ran out. depending on your fixed expenses of course.

my goal is 4 months salary (after taxes) available for immediate access. i'm not quite there yet, but have thought a lot about it and believe the idea is sound.

i'm single with no dependants. i do think about the shtf thing and would like to have the cash on hand for auto emergency, urgent relocation, shtf, or maybe even a can't miss investment.

If by "money" you mean Federal Reserve Notes, I don't use those. I use either gold & silver coins or I barter.

And I keep all my REAL coinage in mayonnaise jars in my refrigerator.

Don't be fooled!

Banks are just food-pellet dispensors operated by the Federal Reserve, a subsidiary of the World Bank which is run by a secret multinational network consisting of the Illuminati, The Trilateral Commission, Council on Foreign Relations, Freemasons, Skull and Bones Society, and the Bildebergs.

Shhhh... they're listening

Probably an average of 4-6k.  I'd like to 'FIND' 6k more in mine too.  I didn't read that post.

I should be siphening some off and investing in the stock market but alas I have been siphening it off for NFA weapons and ammo.  tisk tisk tisk.  [:D]

Well that depends.

The day of payday, I have my salary in there less what was overdrawn from the previous payday.

Then a few days after payday, I am overdrawn anywhere from $400-600.

If you guys think I'm kidding. Look at all my previous post since I came to TX. Then maybe you'll get an idea.

Credit cards are for emergencies.
