Anything more than I need to pay bills usually gets put into a savings account, so at least it can draw interest. Most times though, there isn't much after bills. And when there is, there is usually some "must have" toy waiting for it...

i don't think five weeks is too much. if you had to leave your job tomorrow..for whatever reason...youd likely only have a month or two before that ran out. depending on your fixed expenses of course.
my goal is 4 months salary (after taxes) available for immediate access. i'm not quite there yet, but have thought a lot about it and believe the idea is sound. i'm single with no dependants. i do think about the shtf thing and would like to have the cash on hand for auto emergency, urgent relocation, shtf, or maybe even a can't miss investment. |

If by "money" you mean Federal Reserve Notes, I don't use those. I use either gold & silver coins or I barter. And I keep all my REAL coinage in mayonnaise jars in my refrigerator. Don't be fooled! Well that depends.
The day of payday, I have my salary in there less what was overdrawn from the previous payday. Then a few days after payday, I am overdrawn anywhere from $400-600. If you guys think I'm kidding. Look at all my previous post since I came to TX. Then maybe you'll get an idea. |

Probably an average of 4-6k. I'd like to 'FIND' 6k more in mine too. I didn't read that post.
I should be siphening some off and investing in the stock market but alas I have been siphening it off for NFA weapons and ammo. tisk tisk tisk. [:D] |
