How many languages do you speak, and have they come in handy at all? I took some German in high school, and I was thinking about taking that up again. If that doesn't work out, what else should I try? Any suggestions?

A little bit of Spanish. As my time in Mexico would show, not enough to talk my way out of trouble with the Federales or Aduana.

German and some french.
Used to be fluent french also, lived there in Angers when i was little. |
English and Spanish fluently.
A few phrases in Japanese. I can get by in Italian and Portugese if pressed to do so. (I'll speak Spanish with an accent. Believe me, IT WORKS!) |
I recommend learning Mandarin, so that you can get a job in the house when our Chinese masters take over, and won't have to slave in the mines with the rest of us.
I speak every language and dialect in the world except Greek.
And if it aint English, it's Greek to me. |
I took two years of spanish in high school, but that has all been replaced with Mandarin Chinese.
English, German and Dutch and a little french (had it in school for 5 years but I sucked at it and forgot most of it. Takes a few days to get back into it....)
Took 2 years of Spanish and 2 years of German so far in high school.
I don't remember a lick of Spanish, except how to order a "hamberguesa y papas fritas." My german is not near as rusty, but not anywhere close to fluent. |
I spent several years in Germany as a kid, I haven't spoken the language with any regularity in years, although I remeber enough to think that Kooter is probably lying about something.
Of course I obviously speak the Southern US dialect of English, as well as being fluent in Hephzibah. |
English (of course), German, enough Russian to scrape along if the listener is tolerant, and enough
Polish to get by (or get slapped, whichever comes first) |
Home learnin':
English (Duh) Southern Min Chinese (fluent) Mandarin Chinese (enough to understand when I'm being yelled at) School: German (enough to read and converse) Spanish (enough to get in trouble) |

I speak German, French, Mandarin, and American. German is not used much, unless you work for a German firm or something. Spanish is a popular language. Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic group in America. so Spanish is a good one to have in your toolbox |
