Never in my life have I ever been able to do a pull up and I did body building classes in Jr High and baseball all 4 years of high school.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 9:58:21 PM EST
I said zero, cause I can't do it one armed! (recovering from shoulder surgery)

I don't pull my body up, I push the earth down.

I can do 14 after a good nights sleep, it goes rapidly down per set after that.

I only didn't max the pull up portion of the PFT 1 time right after OCS (18, was weak as could be but ran my best time ever at 18:58). When I was at my prime 25-27.

I jumped up and only did 17 the other day. I was fucking embarrassed. Back on the 3 max sets a day routine.

about 35 I also have a huge dick. Figured I should throw that out there since this is just a poorly veiled dick measuring contest no?
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:01:39 PM EST
Maybe 15 strict dead hangs to mid chest.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:02:17 PM EST
I used to be able to do 14-20 depending on how much I drank the night before.

Now I'm able to do 6-10ish.

When I was a freshman in high school, we did that Presidents Physical Fitness test thing... I couldn't do a single one and got all kinds of shit for it.

I said, "Fuck that shit... I'm gonna do all the pull ups"

Could of years ago I was doing three sets of ten with a chain and 50# weight, but started having elbow issues. Now, I use a 35# weight.

I've topped out at 39 in a single set. Today, I could do maybe low/mid 30's.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:06:34 PM EST
A little over twenty, but I'm trying to get that back up to the mid-thirties and eventually hit forty.

I'm on par with Leonard from Full Metal Jacket

I figured it would have been more.

Ive worked out with weights since I was 15 .
I played football since I was 12 & worked out every day on highschool before school started. I did mandatory pt in college including pullups. I did triathlons later in life.

.I could never do more than 12 pullups at a time. Now down to 6.

I can do a shit ton of dips and push ups though.

I could never understand those that could do twenty plus. Props to you guys.

I do pull ups first thing at the gym as my warm up. I need to go all out tomorrow and see how many I can actually do.

20+ proper form

Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:18:43 PM EST
Very rarely do I see anyone do pullups correctly. Since I left the Marines, it's virtually never.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:18:54 PM EST
On back day I do three sets of 10, so I guess if I just did as many as I could in one go it would likely be 12-15.

A few days ago I did 40, my personal best is 65 (about a year ago)...non kipping, because after all that's not a pullup it's a kipping pullup.

And no I did not pick that number because it's one more than your 64. I'm sure I've posted it a half dozen times in the fitness section.

Same here. I can bench, dead-lift, curl, squat, do lat pulls all day long. A pull up? I look like a fool struggling to get my chin over the bar. I have no clue why that is.

I'm not fat or out of shape, either. I'm 5' 10" and 180 pounds.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:22:40 PM EST
22 on average for my first set.
I take it serious and have for years. Every back workout for the last decade has started with between 35 and 50 pull ups, done in sets to failure until I hit that number. Sometimes my entire back workout will be between 100 and 200 pull-ups, just going to failure until I hit that number, changing grip every set. Do that once a week for a decade and you too can do over 20 pull ups.
Link Posted: 1/19/2015 10:23:23 PM EST
65 years old. I can do 8 wide grip, all the way down , overhand pull-ups, 8 close grip and then 8 underhand.

6-8

Sadly.

At the moment able to do 4 sets of 5 or 6 depending on the day and my back / neck.

If I push I can hit 8 in a row but that finishes me spine wise.

Trying to work up to 4 sets of 10 eventually.

Actually, just tested this today.

I did a set of 13 today, and decided I wanted to go eat pizza instead, so I stopped.

A max-rep set right now is 18... so, I don't get to vote in the poll.

When I was in college, wrestling and playing football and in the best shape of my life, I could barely do 5. I was strong as hell, but just my build and weight-to-body type was always a struggle. I knew kids who could do 40 that didn't work out...just something in their build and musculature.

Pullups are weird that way...some guys just aren't built right for them.

When I got in shape in my early 40's, kind of made it a goal to be able to master the fuckers. I can do about 10-12 with good form now, which is a big accomplishment for me. Doubt I'll ever get to 20, without training like a lunatic for it...and why bother? I'm strong and in good shape. If I have to save my life by pulling my body weight up 15 times in a row, oh well it was a nice life.
