I have been shooting 1 or 2 times a week for the last decade(500 rounds a week). Now I can not get ammo to sustain my hobby. I wish these bastards would settle down so I can get back to my normal shooting schedule. So how long is this shit going to last you think????
On my nerves also. Brass is threw the roof and no powder sales. Remember the old days 1,000 5.56 for $79. |
It will continue as long as people THINK there's an ammo shortage.
from my little narrow view of the world
It seems that the rush on everything has slowed down a good amount still seeing sales 2x of normal but not the 6-10x of the last few months |
IMHO forever. You'll say I remember the good ol days of ammo,...
Remember when they used to sell ammo? I remember when you were able to have as much ammo as you wanted I remember when ammo was made with brass & copper,.. not this plastic crap The younger kids will say," tell us more about guns grandpa what were they like? " Could you really own and shoot them? |
It will last until Obama's Marxist ass gets thrown out of the white house. People are scared, and they have a good reason to be. We have someone in the white house doesn't believe you have the right to life or liberty, or the right to bear arms for that matter..

There is no shortage. SG has M855 for $1K/1000. No this is not a misprint, I almost shit myself when I looked at the latest sales rag that came in the mail today!

The price will never come down if thats what you mean. Remember the good old days shoulda coulda woulda. These are the good old days buy it now while you can. The price is only gonna go up. You may find a great a deal here and there, and when you do you better pounce.
It will last until people chill out and stop panic buying every round they can possibly find. Obama isn't to blame for this, the economy isn't at fault, this is all our own doing.

Until we begin pillaging the supplies of our vanquished foe.

The only light at the end of the the tunnel that I see is that there are so many people holding ammo right now, that when the bubble does burst, prices should drop pretty steep.
I bought a lot before all the stupid and haven't shot much of it. When ammo does become available, I have enough to last me a year of normal shooting. |

I'm not sure it will end. With a gun grabbing administration in power companies will not ramp up additional production capacity if there is any fear that there will be no return on their investment. At the same time gun owners are not going to stop hoarding.
It's a horrible revolving situation. I think the only answer is a different administration to include congress. |
There are many new firearms owners out there, and many of them couldn't get ammo, so my guess it will be at least year or more.
Hey folks give me break, if i can tell the future, I will be richer than Bill Gates. |

Quoted: Quoted: It will be over as soon as people THINK there is no more reason to hoard ammo.It will continue as long as people THINK there's an ammo shortage. Or until they run out of the extra money necessary to do so. As soon as the hoarders run out of cash and start liquidating their stashes prices will drop like a stone as the extra ammo comes into supply. I am still betting on the fall or maybe even mid-late summer. |

Once hoarding diminishes and production gets ramped up more. Remember, around the time that the ammo buying frenzy got going, the recession was becoming well known and manufacturing orders were going down as companies in nearly all industries got ready for hard times. Even with the surge in buying, I'm sure many ammo (and firearm) manufacturers figured that the frenzy couldn't last in a contracting world economy, and that demand would drop due to reduced capital flows across the board, and reduced tax revenue would cause a drop in governmental orders for ammo (cutting out pratice and traing expense has historically been a first step in budget trimming,) and, for the gun maker side of things, orders for new weapons would drop. By the same token, it could easily be assumed that the same trends which have historically tended to lead to greater savings and fewer purchases in households would have obtained today as well––-with people either losing jobs or in fear of doing so, much discretionary spending has doubtless been cut, and the ammo companies may have just assumed they would be in that category for most. I am pretty confident that that is what we are faced with right now––-yes, hoarding is a problem, but the major problem in the supply lines is more likely to be in production cuts at the manufacturing end. Couple this with modern "as needed" inventory systems used to reduce overhead, and you have a serious bump in availability at the counter.

Good input everyone! I hope it ends soon, as in this summer so I can go blasting every week end. Dam! I have several new guns I bought last year I need to break in!!!!
It's already slowing down. Major sporting good stores (Dicks, Academy) around me have plenty of ammo on the shelves. What I'm waiting for is the price to fall as supply catches up to demand.

The gun shortage seems to be over. There were a dozen or so ARs at Sportsman's last night.
No ammo, but I did snag some powder. |
< 3 months, ammo will be readily available but price still jacked up
Mags are showing up. Lowers are showing up. Complete rifles can be had without to much difficulty. So yes, the ammo situation will get sorted out. Sooner or later people are going to run out of room in their basement. Or credit card.

Quoted: Until we get a decent government again. Yep may get better if we take some power back midterms. If we get a decent president in 2012 on top of that i would imagine prices will plummet. The economy is going to be shit for a few years which will keep MFG costs low. If all of this falls into place all the panic buyers will calm down look at their bank accounts and slowly back away. |

Ammo is sitting in the EE for prices that would have sold instantly a few months ago. I think the internet sales are a good judge of where the real world sales will be in about a month or so. On a side note, People hoarding at Wally in your little town probably never heard of Palmetto State Armory or Aim Surplus. If Wally ain't got it neither do they, so they grab all they got. Smart people save their pennies and either back order or watch for cases online. ETA: Federal Bulk packs on the other hand, will never be the same. |

Hey look. We all need another hobby and ammo collecting sounds like a good one. What say you ARFCOM.
Demand hasn't abated, and supply has not risen to meet demand. In fact demand has increased as more police forces add Ar-15s and more people buy .223 cal. rifles.
Both Federal and Winchester are probably contracted out well into next year. The war in Afghanistan will only get worse and a lot of our allies are now switching over to .223. Expect his to last a while. When the war on terror slows down our domestic capacity will be enough to meet demand. Prices will never be as low as they were in the early 2000s. There are no more large stockpiles of surplus ammo for people to buy. |

I just found some at Wal-Mart. |

Academy has plenty, but they are $14 higher than Walley World on WWB 100rd 45acp.
A case of WWB 45 actually lasted overnight last week. I think you're seeing a small slow down. Sooner or later most people look at the amount of ammo they have and say; "I've got enough". You wait until we see higher utility and fuel bills this summer, then you'll see a slow down in ammo sales. |

It'll be over December 21st, 2012. Isn't that when the REAL shortage begins? |
It will end when people believe the price is going to go down soon. Then people will stop buying a case at Walmart expecting a lower price next week.
Also, I am putting off gun purchases because ammo is not available. That could be a reason gun sales are slowing down. |
