Folks,
YOU should be the only censor you need. You do NOT need the government to censor things for you.
You DO realize that you are PAYING for your TV programming (unless you are receiving strictly broadcast via an antenna), so you are overtly choosing to have that programming brought into your home.
Can you not realize that if you are watching a show about rape and molestation cases (Law & Order SVU), that you just *might* see or hear a few things that aren't 1950's "Leave It To Beaver" friendly? You can't *really* be surprised by this, right?
I'm reminded of a story, made famous in my family among the adults, of my great uncle taking some friends and relatives to see Deep Throat in the theater in the 70s when it came out and was the "big thing." Now, my uncle was a LUMBERJACK, a big, powerful, swearin', HILAROUS guy who was always telling jokes, giving people nicknames, and just being funny. The guys he worked with every day could at best be called "course." He knew he was going to a porn theater to see a porn movie, and had been talking it up and insisting the other people go too. Yet, 10 minutes into the movie, he stands up, and at the top of his (considerable) voice, declares, "This is disgusting! You all should be ashamed of yourselves! I can't believe you perverts are watching this!" He stormed out of the theater, with the people he brought trailing behind.
The point is: he WANTED to be offended. He made plans, bought tickets, and brought people with him just so he could be offended in front of people. And he fooled no one.
TV shows have ratings now, just like movies. If you don't want to be offended, read the show descriptions and check the ratings before you watch. I don't need YOUR censorship imposed on me, as I can take care of myself.
