More and more explicit content is making its way to broadcast TV (forget abot Cable!).

How long do you think it will be before the concept of censorship or restraint of any kind is completely abandoned by the industry?

Never. Radio has been around how long?

And they got rid of Howard Stern.

At the rate they're going, F*** and S*** will be in everyday usage on after-9:00pm programming in about 10 years.  There will be a few "shelter" channels that keep it clean like PAX, Disney, and Nickelodeon that will be kid and prude friendly.  It's pretty much like that already, but the non-shelter channels will get more and more vulgar.

Used to be, you couldn't say "bitch" except VERY clinically and only if referring to dogs.  Now they say it on Law and Order about twice every episode.  And I mean, as in "You damn bitch!" yelled to the prosecutor by the witness.  It's kinda sad, really, because you don't need that crap to tell the story.  I don't mind language in movies or on premium channels, but for some reason, I never care to hear it on broadcast TV or basic cable.

Well, they can't ban free speech, but they can sure as hell ban our guns. I think speech is a more dangerous tool than firearms if used properly... you want proof, look at the third reich and it's stairway to power.

Newsflash on CNN:

"Today, that fucking asshole George W. Bush butfucked the country by signing the bullshit IRS disbandment law, which will now allow the mutherfucking cocksucker to fire over 5000 innocent American workers...."

Can you imagine the bias?

Its hard to get mad at you since you have that avatar. But your Elvis remark is idiotic.

How can you compare Elvis to "You damn bitch!" You make my point for me, you see.

And Elvis died for your sins.

cable isn't regulated as far as censorship goes the same way over the air broadcasts are.   HBO and Cinemax has full nudity sometimes on Friday and Saturday nights.  HBO has a series on cathouses as I recall.

Haven't they already done away with all censorship on TV?

Its a progression. From Andy Griffith and Mayberry...to "you damn bitch" and naked butt shots on NYPD Blue (I heard but I didn't watch because I hate cop shows).

What's next? You know its the nature of Hollywood to push...and push some more.

"Decline of Western Civilization blah blah blah"

Remember Rome, eh?

They DID fall.

We're next.

Sustituting profanity & gratuitous sex & violence for talent.

Just like Hollywood.

Never. Censorship will be around forever.

Remember who introduced the V-chip. Remember which admin the TV rating system was introduced by and who is the most against violent videogames... The Left.

"You damn bitch" is probably less shocking culturally today than Elvis was 50 years ago.

Folks,

YOU should be the only censor you need.  You do NOT need the government to censor things for you.

You DO realize that you are PAYING for your TV programming (unless you are receiving strictly broadcast via an antenna), so you are overtly choosing to have that programming brought into your home.

Can you not realize that if you are watching a show about rape and molestation cases (Law & Order SVU), that you just *might* see or hear a few things that aren't 1950's "Leave It To Beaver" friendly?  You can't *really* be surprised by this, right?

I'm reminded of a story, made famous in my family among the adults, of my great uncle taking some friends and relatives to see Deep Throat in the theater in the 70s when it came out and was the "big thing."  Now, my uncle was a LUMBERJACK, a big, powerful, swearin', HILAROUS guy who was always telling jokes, giving people nicknames, and just being funny.  The guys he worked with every day could at best be called "course."  He knew he was going to a porn theater to see a porn movie, and had been talking it up and insisting the other people go too.  Yet, 10 minutes into the movie, he stands up, and at the top of his (considerable) voice, declares, "This is disgusting!  You all should be ashamed of yourselves!  I can't believe you perverts are watching this!"  He stormed out of the theater, with the people he brought trailing behind.

The point is: he WANTED to be offended.  He made plans, bought tickets, and brought people with him just so he could be offended in front of people.  And he fooled no one.

TV shows have ratings now, just like movies.  If you don't want to be offended, read the show descriptions and check the ratings before you watch.  I don't need YOUR censorship imposed on me, as I can take care of myself.
