I think I got my '87 Nissan truck up to 85 once going across the Bay Bridge to SF in the middle of the night. But that was when it was fairly new. Today, on a good day I can make it up the Sunol Grade without having to downshift into 4th. But if I don't get the momentum going at the bottom of the hill, I can't keep up with a Volkswagon bus. Needless today, it isn't a sporty automobile.

1987 Ford Mustang GT, 5.0L H.O., 5 speed.

Bought new by me on 2/11/87.

Pretty dang fast.

Is it wrong that I remember the date and time of purchase of my car, but can't remember my wedding anniversary?

The speed odometer only goes to 85. If I wind it up real tight it'll do that in third gear , and with two more to go I'm just not real sure. But know that I'm getting older I just don't drive fast anymore , hell I can't remeber when the last time I went over a 100. I did have a 76 chevy PU that was "slightly" modified , the gauges were the round kind that the speed odometer would just keep turning . It went up to 100 and then said "unleaded fuel only" or something like that and would then start back at 0 , there was a couple of times I would dare to glance down and see the needle setting on 20 , needless to say thats pretty fast in an old truck.

Stock 2001 Nissan Maxima SE
8AM coming home from work on a Sunday morning, Eastbound Long Island Expressway: 130 mph so far, would probably go to as advertised 140mph but I keep coming up to a curve or some guy that thinks 65mph in the left hand lane is fast enough.
Not worried about receiving summonses, I give those out too.

Can get our abused 2000 Chevy Impala(6 cylinder...blasphemy?)Patrol Cars up to about 75 before the Manhattan Potholes and Pedestrians start making driving really scary...the Ford Crown Vics are much better for
all out car chases. Can't wait to try a Dept. Camaro or Mustang!!!!

Shelby Cobra replica,9.9,s-143mph.It has nitrous but I havnt turned it on yet.this car is set up for the road and has a major traction problem.
Heres the funny one.I didnt even what know I was getting when I bought.1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6
My wife fond this  on a used car lot.She said she really liked it.It only had 53,000 on it and it looked brand new.I looked over and even had it put up on a rack to make shure it had no been wrecked. After we get it home a couple week later I was cleaning the windows and see there bullet proof.Maybe 4-5 months latter I replaced the rear window track and motor unit.Theres armour plating in the door.It also had a full skid plate under the motor and tranny.I hadnt drove it much but remebered it had a lot of pick up.So when my wife wasnt around I took it to Gateway Int.It ran 14.1/102.Top end is about 150 if it pulls all the way in fourth and I think it will.I wonder who owned this car before me.

Gotta love the big caddy mills...torque GODs.  MTS provided me with lots of stuff I needed...sheetmetal intake, header adapters (BBC), cam, lifters, rods, rockers (adjustable) etc etc.  makes tons and tons of power (which I would rather not divulge the amount of).  Unfortunately, it likes to eat trannies every now and then.

As hard as I tried, I just couldn't pass this one up.

Unfortunately, I lost a LOT of vehicles some months ago (due to city ordnances, POS Govt) and am now in the process of recovering.

Between my brother and I we had:

68 Dodge Charger [Orgi. 318] still have the 440 for it!

Two 74 Dodge Darts - One was a Slant-6 the other a kinda nicely built MOPAR small block.

73 Plymouth Gold Duster

Still have some 440's, 400's, 318's and a spare Slant-6.

Other things we've had in the past
Alcohol Funny Car.

Current project:
Looking for a 67-71 Dodge Dart
Initially a 440, will later upgrade to a blown 426Hemi using some alternative fuel [:)]

Another thing,

I don't really mention since i'm primarily a MOPAR guy. My brother and I also play around with two Triumphs we have. A Spitfire [really nice engine work] and a GT-6 Mk-3, both are 72's.

The Gt-6 needs work.
The Spitfire just needs another set of rods but so far i've done alot of major mods to the engine, not much more I could do except turbo/super charge it.

Got a Fors F350 Diesel up to 85, but I think two things hold it back.

1. I believe there is a governor topping it out at 85 MPH

2. The large ambulance module on the rear chassis may not make it the most aerodynamic thinbg in the world. Probably ahaed of a parachute though.

I did get my VW Passat V4 1.8 Turbo up to 110, but I was too much of a wuss to push it more. I'm damn sure it could do better.

1994 Mercury Tracer

I still do not know how fast this car can go since I drive without ever exceeding 3000rpm on the tach. Considering that I cruise at 75 mph @ 2900rpm, it is enough for me.

I know that it won't be too fast but as long as it gets me where I want to go and back, I have no complaints.

7 yr. old car but looks, sounds and handles like it just came out of the factory. I will make this car last for as long as I can. Beats the hell out of having a car payment.

How fast is my car?  Not sure!  With all the custom electronics installed in one of my cars, I have no idea because of all the weight.

The added weight came from such things as a remote multi CD player, full Internet access, voice interactive GPS(can find any street within 10' in the U.S. guided by GPS voice. I ask and it speaks back.), voice-controlled cell phones, fully-functional computer(good for dictation), thief auto-tracker locator, etc, etc.

I'm beginning to feel like James Bond. Naaaahhh, he isn't a surfer boy.

The little hamsters under the hood only can run so fast to power the car.  Heck, I'm not mean, I feed them poor creatures only the best sunflower seeds money can buy.   [:D]

I forgot to mention that I do practice road safety when responding to email or web surfing by pulling to the side of the road.  Can't stand people driving with a cell and not paying attention to the road.

When I'm finished web surfing at the side of the road and I'm ready to go and the light turns green, I'm off!

Sorry, can't say anymore than this at the moment because the light just turned green and I need to head for school.  Full agenda for days to come!

Hey Mrhemi!! Another Mopar guy in a world of front-drive sewing machine powered Jap cars (nothin personal, but I have a really hard time getting excited about any Honda, even if it does run 9's...). Anyway here's mine (no pics yet, but soon).:

`73 Challenger Alston Chassis 4 link
440, .620/324deg solid cam, ported Stage IV heads, Torgueflite trans with brake, 4:88 gears and 15x33 goodyears. Total car weight is only about 2600 lbs. Best ET so far is 10.02 at 135.022. that was three years ago on a nice autumn evening. Of course there is a LONG list of other goodies in the car, and it is currently disassembled undergoing some upgrades in hopes of running NHRA Super Gas someday.

Also have a `70 Charger R/T 440 auto that has run as quick as 11.88 through the exhaust on slicks (no juice). It too is currently apart for restoration.

Both cars are in primer again..... east coast air sucks!!
