Well, my one-way commute is 52 miles and I pass a lot of grocery stores...
That said, the closest one is about two miles away.

Closest is actually 7.5 miles away from my house.

I drive by it everyday because I drive 32 miles to get to work

Nearest place with groceries would be a Dollar General or a small food mart. About 2 miles away for me.

The nearest "grocery store", and also the nearest Wal-Mart, is about 20 miles away from my house. I live in a pretty rural area.

ETA: I don't think this is a good indicator of how rural/urban an area is. When I lived in a small city for college, I was still 2 miles from a grocery store because our subdivision was so large.

Farming community but the store, Vons, is about 2 miles away.

Closest one is less than two minutes (I'm in a rural location, just happen to be near the store).  But I only shop there if we need something right then.  Normal grocery shopping takes place at the store 15-20 minutes away.

I could walk there in about 5 minutes.

Try the Add Poll button at the bottom right.  It shows up after you post the thread.

The place I am moving into on Aug 1st: the full size grocery store is 75 yards away, within the same parking lot.

Current location: Half a mile as the crow flies, but it's closer to a bit over a mile due to pesky roads.

Two miles from my house.
I drive right by it every day going to and from work.

3.2 miles by road.  But my area is far from urban.

I live 3 miles from work. I have 3 grocery stores that are each about 1-2 miles from my house.

About a mile and a half.

I have within 5 miles:

Macey's
Ridley's
Allen's
Smith's
Harmon's
WinCo
Wal-Mart
Target

I really like the city I am living in. 84,000 people, and one of the biggest cities in the county.

I might be a half mile from the closest one to me.  I used to work there, and could walk there, put my lunch in my locker, and clock in within 7 minutes of leaving my apt.

A real store  with produce, fruit, meat etc., about 26 miles.

Gas station with convenience foods, about three miles.

For a quick couple items I can walk to the general store.  For a weeks worth of groceries either go to a store thats 5 minutes away or one that is 15 minutes away.  The BJ's is also about 15-20 minutes away.

There's two within 400 yards. There's also a bank, a drugstore, a gas station and a pizza joint within the same distance. And I live in a small suburb

About 2 miles.

I probably have 10 grocery stores within 5 miles of the house, but I usually drive to Whole Foods which is about 15 miles away. ETA:  The closest is probably just over a mile away.

If I lean out of my balcony, I can see a Kroger's to the East, about 300 yards away. About a mile and a half past that is a Wal-mart. Target is 2 miles NW.

So, not far.

Twenty miles.

So my take on this is most of you are bugging out. That is the reason for asking. Question for the people who are 300 yards away do you feel safe at home? Or are you going to bug out asap after the shtf?

ETA maybe i posted in the wrong forum.

Being in close proximity to other people doesn't make me feel unsafe. I'll bug in or out depending on the current situation. Both can be equally dangerous, however hunkering down seems to almost always be a better option than venturing out.

My wife shops at two different stores,  each is within 2 to 4 miles.  There are another two stores within this area but she doesn't use them.

Exactly where do you live OP?  You're only listed as in the USA.

Are you in Montana or somewhere like that?

I mentioned in another post about mine.

The only supermarket in the town I live by is about 3/4 mile from where I work. However, if I'm at home and need something it's 8.5 miles.

I suppose I am the exception

We are "bugged out" where we live

We have to "bug in" to go to the store.

I cannot fathom living in a city or "built up" area
