I keep hearing about how my state is trying to put tougher laws on gun trafficking and stiffer punishments for the felons that traffic them.

Here is what I don't understand. How do these guys get all these guns in the first place? Do they come from states with easier gun laws? Are they comming from Mexico? Straw purchases?
I have heard Florida is a easy place to pick up a handgun if you are a trafficker. Just how easy is it? Go in and show your fake ID easy?

Why can't they stop these guys at the source?

Usually stolen, or large straw sales made  by crooked dealers.  That was my experience as an LEO.

Also-most gangs don't make their money seling guns-they make it with drugs.  Guns are just ancillary to the core business.

They probably buy them from foriegn concerns, or mafia affiliates. *shrug*
