Tie an regular over hand knot at the end of your rope. Then make a small loop about for inches towards the the standig end of the rope. Pull the running end of the rope through the loop so that the overhand knot you tied binds the loop you made, creating a fixed loop. You then pass the rest of the standing end of the rope through it to make your lasso.

These ways might work with a plain old grass rope,(spit) but with a riata (rawhide rope) they won't work. For a riata, you need to tie a hondo first. Then the hondo is tied into the end of the riata. The running end of the riata is passed (spit) through the riata. The hondo usually has a wearing piece of hide laced onto it. This is to keep it from wearing out when the riata runs through it.

Now, (spit) what kind of fancy rope you using?
