In the past couple of days a skunk has been hanging out around our house and is making it smell horrible. I have not yet viewed the skunk in person to verify, but it smells like a skunk. How can I flush it out and get rid of it (kill it, or send it to the neighbors house). I can't shoot it cause I live in the city. I've got a BB gun (old crossman pump several times, shoot, pump several times shoot) but doubt it is large enough to take down a skunk. Thanks for the help.

Get a live trap or two, bait it with moist cat food. If you get the right size the skunk will have a hard time lifting its tail to spray. Our local pest control outfit rents them for $2.00 a day, or you can buy one for 60 bucks or so. I've taken care of 3 skunks in the last two months or so. Hope this helps.

Yes, get the trap--"box trap"--most often made by the "Hav-A-Hart" company. You really should not "have a heart" once you catch it. I'd suggest ridding yourself of it in one of two ways--

1) Approach the trap with a tarp extended in front of you. Cover the trap with the tarp. Lift it and put into a pond or trash can full of water, which quickly drowns the skunk.

2) If someone posts you should "release it"--ask them for their address and release it at THEIR house.

Are you sure the problem (odor) is coming from a skunk?
I had an old neighbor that was complaining about a skunk too but it turned out to be a dead cat under her porch.

borrow the dog from the guy down the street that you don't like much.....send in said dog after skunk. dog takes care of skunk, and evil neighbor gets a smelly dog.

Before you buy or rent, check with your city/county/local animal control... In my town, they'll let you "check out" a trap for a week or so for free (ok, tax supported). Anyway, check with your animal control for advice as well.

I used red fox urine to get rid of my skunk. I poured it around the skunk's "home" at night when it was out. It is supposed to make the skunk believe that a fox has moved into it's place.

Get some bread slices, roll them up into balls, place them near where you've seen the skunks, and pour antifreeze on them until they are well soaked.

Do this just before going to bed so no one's pets eat them and wake up to a skunk free home.
