The big dealer in my town carries Liberty and American Security. I've an older (1990's vintage) Liberty that I'm satisfied with, but I need something bigger. I'm looking at the Fatboy Jr. The nomenclature used for the Fatboy Jr. door material is "composite". Does this mean a fire resistant ceramic? The local dealer offers the Fatboy Jr. for $1200 delivered. My price range is under $2000. I want a plain matte finish, basic shelving, mechanical lock, nothing fancy.

I just bought one on Sunday. It is not as nice as my heratige, but it is made in the USA and has locking bolts(lugs? rods?) on the top and bottom of the door. Anyone that comes prepared to get into a safe, can and will. This safe would defeat any common burgler.

The weakness of anysafe as I see it is not the door, but rather the side. A metal cuting circular saw would defeat most in about ten minutes, but how many theives carry them around.

All in all I thought it was a good value. Not as nice as many out there but like I said a good value for what you get.

I have always wanted to see some data to prove one brand of safe survives more robbery attempts than another. Now Fire, tha's another thing.

Like most companies, Liberty and American Security both make some good safes and some not so good safes...what other models are you considering?

Durrrr I feel like a nitwit. I didn't see that in the forum listing! I'm considering the Fatboy Jr.
