I used to be able to know how to do that but it's been a few years since I've been on here.

I went to "help"...it was no help.

And then you post in the thread or hit the "subscribe" button.

If using the mobile version of the site the button is named "tag".

Posting in a thread automatically subscribes you and the subscribe button allows you to watch a thread without having to post.
