Apparently I need to change my system password and can't seem to access the router website

try http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1

Those are the two most common.

You can find out the router's IP address in your connection properties, without knowing what operating system you're using I can't be specific on how to get there. It'll usually be called the Gateway IP address.

I've been trying both of those, and neither works.

when I look up the gateway IP address, it's 192.168.1.254

but that's my AT&T website to change my system settings.  shouldn't the router address be different?

I'm about to pull my hair out over here.

Assuming you're using windows, first go to a command prompt.  You can do this by going to Run, then type CMD in the dialog box.  This will open a command line.  Then type IPCONFIG /ALL (a space between "ipconfig" and the "/".  This will spit out a bunch of information.  The router's address should be the default gateway.

what kind of router do you have?

a quick Google search for the brand and model will tell you the default settings.

Chances are if you are using an ATT DSL modem/router combo, the correct address is going to be 192.1.168.254.  There should be a page that has your wireless settings in it.

Do you have more networking device besides the AT&T device? If not, then the AT&T device is your dsl modem, router, and maybe a
switch and wireless access point.

I have an AT&T modem and a Linksys router.  AT&T changed my network password, so the router doesn't connect.  So I'm trying to find how to change the router password.  But none of the router IP addresses work for me.

no space is needed......

It'll be the default gateway.

IF you pull that up and it's the AT&T stuff, then your router is probably operating in switch mode and doesn't have an IP. (And therefore, is not doing anything that would need you to use the password.)

What exactly, in plain English, are you trying to do and why? There are a lot of reasons to change password.  What "system password" are you talking about?  The wireless?  Why do you need to do this?

You can always reset it with the little button or pin-hole.  Then you'll know the password will be factory default.

It's plain English, but not a technical term. He could be referring to the WPA pre-shared key, PPPoE user credentials, and the list goes on.

Is the Linksys wireless or wired? From what you're saying it's wireless otherwise you wouldn't need a password. Are you sure it's able to function as an access point? What is the model number? Just hard wire the Linksys router to the ATT device, login to the ATT device and find the area where it shows what other devices are connected to the network. There you will be able to see the IP address of the Linksys router and you can change the config's on it.
