My Father in Law has this old IPOD.
He's doesn't know how to use it. My new PC build has a Firewire port. I don't have a firewire cable yet. Is this IPOD compatable with a PC? What else would I need to get it running for him? Does this Firewire cable also charge the battery? On the back it says: iPod 20GB Model No. A1019 EMC No. 1942 Rated 8-30Vdc 1.0A Max.      |

All you should need is the Fire Wire cable and make sure you have iTunes installed on your PC.

As long as you get a firewire cable and install iTunes it will work.... As far as charging, that I dont know about firewire.

well I ran over to my computer geeks friends house.
It worked on a MAC, but not a PC. He said it was formattted for a MAC. |

Those original firewire ones are versatile. You could actually put a bootable OS on them. The newer USB versions are not up to it.

I think the item below answers how to get this PC or Mac compatible. The terminology is "restore".

Try using the PC program "ephPod"
It is a format independent way of updating an iPod over firewire. Pretty decent program too. |
