Bought used but new Savage Model 12 .308. 1:13 Came with a NF 12-42x56.

Zero was moving an inch. Driving me nuts!!

Put a Vortex 16x whatever from another gun on it. Groups are in the same hole.

What should I look for when I get back home??

Send it back to Nightforce. If it's theirs, they can fix it, if it's not, they'll let you know quick enough.

Look for airsoft splatter on the side of the scope.

Sounds like it needs to go back to NF anyway.

Put pics here as well.

Call NF, they can walk you through I.d .  Is it nxs or benchrest. I can look at mine and see if it has the same identifying marks. But that may not help if its a good phony.

SN should be on the bottom in front of the mag/power ring.  its small.  they respond to email, send it to them they will verify it.  if its broken they will fix it.  For this reason they tend to hold their value, the scope would have been 1500 ish new.

How are the rings and scope mounted?  pic rail with NF rings torqued to 68in/lbs? or some other config.  If the original owner didn't mount correctly it will cause problems.

good luck.

pics of said NF?

do you have an align & lapping kit?  The NF may be responding poorly to misalignment while the other scope is tolerating it.  Or it may be broken..  In the NXS line I have had great luck with their stuff taking being banged around and holding up.

I did pay to have lapping done to deal with slight misalignment of the receiver.

I haven't had to deal with service other than questions about a cleaning product but they responded in 2 hours or less on a weekday.  If its their scope they will test it and fix it for free if there is not user damage..  They will also swap reticles and from mil to moa (and vice versa) at a small charge.

The price you paid should be the first clue. If you got a "deal" from your uncle Rick that drives a F150, it's probably a fugazi.

NF are HEAVY
I'm sure they have precise specs on their website.

I'd weigh it
Link Posted: 8/31/2015 1:22:35 PM EDT

I'll have to weigh it at my shop on my refrigeration scale.
Link Posted: 8/31/2015 2:24:45 PM EDT
Sorry to bump this. I'll send this off today if its real.

Sure looks good and smooth. I'm thinking it's just a older model?
Link Posted: 8/31/2015 2:27:34 PM EDT
It could be the scope mount / rings.  NF scopes are big and heavy and require a substantial scope mount and Class A install to keep it from shifting around and losing zero.  Especially on a gun with recoil.

Link Posted: 8/31/2015 2:28:51 PM EDT
It certainly could be, I lack knowledge of the 'older' ones to be of much help.
Maybe worth a call to NF?
