I came across AR15.com in the early spring of 2001, while compiling a list of firearms related bookmarks.
I had owned seven AR15's at various times back in my heavy gun trading days in the early and late 80's, But had put off buying anouther, because some more pressing monitary need always came up. I had handguns and shotguns, just never seemed to get back around to the battle rifle thing. To be real honest, I was just more intrested in buying new computer stuff, A shiney new Monitor or a Printer that had a fax/scanner, than I was in laying out a grand on a rifle built the way I wanted.
Then on Sept 11 2001, Osama Bin Laden made two decisions for me. 1.) I was about to invest in a new Assault Rifle, ASAP, Hopefully I had not waited until to late. 2.) I was about to start spending a whole lot of time at that AR15.com website I had seen back in the spring.
I briefly considered buying a AK47 clone (for about ten seconds.) But in the end decided that, If things go really wrong (Anthax Attacks are things going pretty wrong.) there is just no substitute for owning you countries battle rifle.
I had owned enough AR15's that I was more than aware of their quirks, hiccups, hangups, and finnicky habits. In short I knew I could make one run.
I found AR15.com to be even more help than I had at first thought, I soon had huge amounts of user data on almost all of the Parts gun outfits. information on big changes in the AR15 rifle system, that had come along in just the last couple of years and of course, AR15.com introduced me to Norala Tactical, Who I eventualy bought the great majority of my Rock River FAR15 mid-length's assemblies from and to Sable Co, who'm I have not done business with yet, but plan to, if the new Trijicon TriPower sites ever come out.
I found that I enjoyed AR15.coms boards quite a bit as well, While one does have to suffer thru the occasional Walter Mitty or 16 year old poser, these boards are worth it, because they are also the home of some of the finest and most knowledgeable gunners in this country or the world for that matter.
Anyway, thats how I found AR15.com
