Short version;

I started dating this girl about 3-4 weeks ago.. she threw up a few red flags (based on flakiness) that my gut was screaming "ABORT, ABORT, EJECT!". But (this time anyway) I discounted it just as my "wall" getting in the way, and considering that girls around my age flake all the time... I discounted it also.

4 weeks later, I am looking back now, and realizing that what I've seen was pretty much on the money, that I should have listened to the gut feeling and ejected then and there.

Atleast with dating/relationships, if my instincts are screaming bloody murder about something being a flag.... I am "generally" right.

Anybody else?

I'm not even going to bother reading the rest of the thread.  I had red flags going up as soon as I got married.  If you haven't ejected yet, do so before it's too late.

I've ignored guts before but usually its like 85 - 95% right. Just abort if its in your mind. If its something little, obviously little that could be putting you off it might not be a big deal but way its been for me is it ends up becoming a big deal because you'll want to abort later ... listen to the gut!

My gut is more accurate than the atomic clock.

For instance, this guy approached me last week and offered me $50 to do some modeling in a truck stop motel, said he was a highpowered talent scout for a male-modeling agency. I've always considered myself a handsome gent, so I figured what the hey.

My gut said he wasn't on the level, and it turns out I was right. I knew as soon as I saw the ball gag and chinese basket rig it wasn't an honest deal. Oh well, I needed the $50.

Same as above. Doesn't mean we listen all the time though.

Pretty darned accurate.
Haven't been wrong yet.

Probably would have had a lot less pain and suffering if I'd listened in the first place.

99.99% accurate.

I've learned the perils of ignoring it.

My gut instincts are 100% accurate.  Now if I'd just listen to them 100% of the time I'd be much better off.

Are you trying to say that you wouldn't be married if you had?

Sorry, just tryin' to put a few words in your mouth.  No disrespect to either you or J.

About 90% accurate. Wish I'd heed them more. Oh wait, there's one right now...

Nevermind, just those fajitas from lunch talking back to me.

If I paid attention to my gut feelings, my life would be so boring.

No stress, no drama swirling around me, no liars to sift through for truth, no heartache burn.  No clouds filled with xanax to float on.  I really hate knowing things about people, and so do they.

My gut said it hates me.

Well look at it this way, next time you fill out a job application you can now add 'Gimp' as one of your new job skills.......

It depends on what your gut responds to, but it sounds like you had more than gut to go on at the beginning with her.  The thing that identifies "flakey" is your brain.  But, don't make the mistake of thinking you'll find a woman who is rock solid on everything you are.

No, but I have heard of Gavin De Becker before.  I can't remember what book of his it was, but I know one of them came very highly recommended from a person I trust.

Just when through the SAME thing! If I would have posted on ARF what was going on I know I would have gotten the Eject! Eject! Eject! response but I went in anyway and got burned

I would say my gut is about 85% accurate. It used to be 100% accurate, but I've changed my values a lot (was veering on socialist/libertarian 6 years ago to now much more like a republican)...and I can no longer make gut  judgements as quickly, cuz my OLD ideals conflict with my new ones. SO now  I have to sit back and think a bit  before I go with my gut.  However, for judging on the opposite gender... I think it's still 95% accurate.

You've gotta start taking this approach:

- Actually, we've only done this twice.
- How did you do?
- Crashed and burned on the first one.
- And the second?
- I'll tell you tomorrow. But it's looking good so far.

I'll bet you were very internally-conflicted six years ago.
