Inspired in part by an event held during the Infantry Officer Course located at MCB Quantico. (Obstacle course, Endurance course (4.8 miles of running through the hills and obstacles with full kit), Obstacle course, Endurance course, Obstacle course)

I have a good friend who has talked me into agreeing to do the "tough mudder" with him outfitted in utilities, boots, LBV, assault pack, helmet, camelback, and (theoretically) rubber duck M16s.  Same concept, and possibly the best way IMHO to determine an individuals level of combat fitness.

While out on a run a few minutes ago, it occurred to me, why not invite some ARFCOMMERs?  Everyone jokes about how disgusting and out of shape most ARFCOMMERs are, so lets see what you've got.  Anyone interested in doing a tough mudder as part of a team ARFCOM- in utes and gear?  I'll have the gear list posted shortly.

The gents that have expressed interest thus far:

Dejavu

dubBinSEA

armedbutnotdangerous

Johnsonboy11

Shamelessly plagerized gear list:

Uniform/Equipment List.

a. The uniform will be utilities. Due to the

extreme physical activity involved in the execution of this

course, no warming layers are authorized.

b.

sling.

c. On the Fighting Load Carrier (FLC), the competitor will

have the following:

All personnel will carry their personal weapons (rubber ducky rifle M16/M4), with

3 magazine pouches w/6 magazines

1 grenade pouch

1 Camel Back (full)

d. The helmet must be worn during negotiation of the ropes

and* cargo net.

e. Each competitor executing the event

will carry the following in an assault pack.

1 set utility uniform (blouse and trousers)

4 pairs, issue socks

1 green T-shirt

1 soft cover

1 wet weather parka (Gortex jacket)

1 first aid kit

1 poncho/tarp

1 E-tool w/ case

It took me 50 minutes to do a 3.2 mile Warrior Dash. We did stop for mud fights and check out the women.

I've done shit like that many times because the military said I had to. It sucked. I have no desire to ever do it again.

Geez, I'm an old, broken down grandpa type fart. You can come backpacking with me though. That's the best I can do.

ETA, you're in NC. I'm up for doing this again.

Want to try and do it in 24 hours or less? I don't have a lot of time away from work.

Oh I dunno, is it harder than the Darby Queen?

Honestly I'd love to go (outside of being called a Marine) but don't have the time between work and ice hockey.

I am doing the Texas Tough Mudder with a friend, but I am not going to wear extra stuff. I'll be doing good to finish as it is.

You do know its longer than 4.5 miles right? It's 11 miles. Did one early this year, super fun! I'll be doing it next year too. It's fun when your in shape and you see most other people having a hard time.
If your preparing I recommend a lot of mountain trail running with lots off inclines.

Yes.  The course I mentioned earlier is 4.8 miles twice, sandwiched in between 3 obstacle courses.  And the 4.8 mile legs each have obstacles along the way.  Given the length of the obstacle courses, and their nature, I am guessing it is close to even.
