4hrs! Today for an emergency root canal.  The bill? $1052

[rolleyes]

On a brighter note I just opened a new gift bottle of Jim Beam...Strictly for medicinal purposes.

4hrs?  Did the roots terminate in your boots?  A typical first appt. for a root canal shouldn't take more then 45-60 minutes.  Are you sure he/she was a dentist or an endodontist?

/boudt 3 hrs. When i was a Kid I needed 2 wisdom +2 additional teeth pulled for yes-Braces.

They gave me multiple novacain injections.

No pain-Just the horrible grinding sound when the dentist extracted my chompers. The sound was the worst, followed by a refreshing gush of 0 positive[puke]

Im not sure, a few hours at least. I usually sleep through most of it and wake up when the novicane wears off. It sucks having to get all your molars crowned.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, the oral surgeon put me out. I knew nothing about it. My wife said it only took about 20 minutes to get all 4 of them.

I spent a very enjoyable 3 hours in a dental chair.
I was having sex with a girl friend. And she wasn't
the only one either. My dad is a dentist and I had
a key to the office. Don't think for one minute
I didn't take advantage of that growing up.
Sex and laughing gas is a unique experience.[8D]

A few hours getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. No nitro...just novacaine.

I looked like a chipmunk after that....cheeks were swollen, and mouth was packed with gauze.

I stay as long as I can. My dentist has an assistant that's HOT. I'm glad they have that lead thing on my lap when she leans over to do the x-rays.

I've been known to eat a whole bag of Oreo cookies out in the waiting room when I'm going to get my teeth cleaned.

Sometime they have to cancel the rest of their appointments that day!

dead serious. it was last year. the dentist told me she was going on vaction the next day and all three needed to be done as soon as possible. . She ran into some problems with the first one. the other 2 went quick and easy.

I think my jaw hurt worse the next day than the root canals did. I got to the point i couldn't open my mouth for 2 days. The muscles were completely exhausted from being stretched for so long.

Geez, some of you guys need to look for new dentists. I had a root canal in September, just a week before I was to go overseas for several weeks. I was in the Endodontist's office for a total of 45 minutes, most of which was filling out the stoooopid forms, looking at current magazines, and waiting for the prescription to be written. I was in the chair for less than 10 minutes, and probably more like 7-8, most of which was waiting for the local to take effect. The actual procedure took only a couple of minutes. Seriously. I was shocked at how quickly the guy worked. No chit-chat, no bullshit with this guy. I went back about 4 days later for him to remove the packing and put the filling in, and it was the same deal. The damage was about $475, I think.

I've had 8-10 root canals done.
All under 1 hour.
Only time I had pain was the one in the lower left side. He gave me 8 shots of novacain. Never hit the nerve. I ended up breaking the arm off the chair.

Found out at the next office that I have a displaced nerve on that side. Now they hit it on the first shot every time.

ANY time spent in a dentist's chair is too damn long. I've spent so many painful moments in dentist's chairs that I have developed a full-blown neurosis.
When I was in school, broke, I had a bad habit of developing toothaches at finals time. I once made the mistake of going to a dental college in desperation. I was (treated?) by a 400lb. german woman with lots of facial hair. Evidently they thought a "deep-scale" cleaning was just what the doctor ordered. So this NAZI does her thing, lecturing me the whole time about flossing. "In the vuture, you vill floss! This is what happens when you don't"
I later begged some green from my folks and went to a real dentist. He immediately recognized that I needed a root canal.
If junkies get as much from the needle as I did from that one shot of novocain... it was wonderful.
Anyway, this is Christmas, and we usually get to go home a little early. I needed to re-check my zero on my AR, and I was planning a trip down to the farm for said purpose.
Since I read this post, I think I'll find a pic of that little ol lady from "throw Momma from the train", draw in a crosshair, and get even with all the Dentist/Nazis.
"Throw down your floss and be free! You have nothing to lose but your teeth."

For however long they will leave the gas turned on. Thank God I have never had any major dental stuff done. They scare me worse than clowns.
