Just a quick question and poll for all us emergency workers out there (EMS, Fire, PD, combinations of each, etc):

How well do you work with departments you work with on a regular basis?

As PD we get along great with EMS and the FD where I am. I also work the EMS side as an ambulance driver so everything goes well on that end. Also, we are a low-volume agency so if we are out on patrol and an EMS or FD call comes in we will respond for lift-assists and/or traffic control as needed. Everyone gets together well and we have yet to have a jurisdictional pissing match take place.

How about everyone else? Equally rosy for all of you?

Our rescue chief is the PD's fire chief.  So, guess how well we work together.

We teach EMT and refresher for the PD and they have the keys to all of our stations, which they use for breaks and paperwork.

We get along with the hose-jockies allright.  We are in the same building, but are separated by a door.  Our EMS and fire are combined.
A couple of officers work part time as ambulance drivers in their limited spare time.

Our police academy and fire academy are in the same building so as recruit schools go you
see the new officers as you are training.  On the street we have a fair amount of LEO who use
the firehouse for meals, bathrooms and occasionally reports.  We have a great on scene relationship too.

As for the Emergency Departments it really depends on the Medic and the Nurse/Doctor relationships.
Some are really good some really suck.
