I learned how to create an animated GIF for my avatar today through an online tutorial, but it exceeds the file size limit by 1.6KB (limit is 20KB, and I'm at 21.6KB.) How can I reduce the file size to get under the limit?

The specifics will vary among the various editing tools available, but since you can't switch to JPG format (wouldn't be an animated GIF), try reducing the number of colors you have in the image. That should do it quickly.

Reducing color depth is good. You can also try eliminating every other frame.

Thanks for the tip. I reduced the colors from 256 to 185 to get it to 20K. To tell the truth, my eyes cannot discern the difference beween the two.

EDIT: It probably looks bunched up to you guys now in the 80X60 format, but I created it with the new avatar size in mind (the site is going to 175X95 avatars soon.)
