It's almost like there is some sort of mass delusion going on that DeSantis has a chance.  I'm curious what percentage of people claiming to believe this really believe it....

The actual thing he did "wrong", was: Trump getting indicted. That's when the polls (if they are to be believed) completely flipped.
That's it.

Yup.

In the mind of the average GOP voter, the Swamp going after Trump, and thus NOT going after DeSantis automatically makes DeSantis the defacto swamp, regardless of the facts.

DeSantis’ record speaks for itself… He is the antithesis of a RINO, but the truth doesn’t matter to the Trump crowd.

Indicting Trump is the perfect catch 22 that benefits the DNC due to the stupidity of the GOP electorate. Either way they win.

He’s not a bad choice, but he’s low energy.

People love Trump because an asshole without a filter willing to hurt feelings, say shit that makes you shake your head, and drop MOABs on a fucking third world valley with goat farmers and insurgents in sandals. He’s a narcissist and a prick, but that same nature makes him extremely valuable when dealing with foreign relations and negotiating treaties.

I agree with previous posters who say DeS was a fool to challenge Trump.  His ego and pride got the best of him.  But, he CAN do the following:

1. Bow out sooner rather than later.
2. Endorse Trump asap.
3. Consolidate Trump's base for 2028, which is 70-80 million voters, by doing 1 and 2.  They are there for the taking and none of the candidates seem aware of that.
4. Focus on FL.
5. Perhaps take a position in Trump's cabinet, if Trump wins.
6. If Trump doesn't win, it's no skin off DeS' ass.  He still has the base for 2028.

But his pride won't let him do that.  If we could read his mind right now, DeS is thinking, "Welp, that was dumb.  Shoulda never done that."

Seems that we're at an impasse. DeSantis supporters see no need for a guy a million percent behind the lead candidate to drop out because no votes have been cast while simultaneously crying for Trump to drop out because "he can't win the general!".

It was a retarded perspective at the beginning of campaign and considering recent trends it may be more retarded now.

The republican situation is setup to be a disaster for this election.  Trump voters carrying on like normal until the left locks him up and all of the self proclaimed "principled conservatives " smelling their own farts and screeching from the bushes.

Basically you guys are like the Obama worshippers, jus the other side of the coin.

The Democrat playbook was made clear in 2022: promote the most extreme Republican in their primary (who, more often than not, was also the Trump pick) so they are easier to defeat in the general, while bemoaning the "rampant extremism" of Republicans the whole time. They played the game to near perfection, and Trump folks are falling into the trap again.

Actually we're saying he should show up for debates, in this primary we are having because he choked in the 4th year of his Presidency (Tricked by a hobbit in a labcoat) and lost.

He's in this primary because he lost. This isn't a coronation and he isn't owed anything.
He actually owes us an explanation.

If elections are unwinnable now and rigged - WHY is he running, in HIS words.

50% of people who voted for him twice, are "not Trump againers" by first choice.
That's a massive failing on his part.

It was a retarded perspective at the beginning of campaign and considering recent trends it may be more retarded now.

The republican situation is setup to be a disaster for this election.  Trump voters carrying on like normal

TBH I blame Trump for carrying on like normal.
He owed us explanations and apologies.
He's not shown an ability to work with people who don't flatter him, and it's a horrible failing to have in a leader at this level.

until the left locks him up and all of the self proclaimed "principled conservatives " smelling their own farts and screeching from the bushes.

Oh we're finger pointing now? That's what this is?
Oh okay.
So if you pick a candidate (that already "lost", making him a "loser") that loses AGAIN, in a predictable way, because of his juvenile antics, you own this.
OF course you would hear, "Hey there's a guy that actually won a post 2020/SCOTUS-Abortion-Decision statewide election, in a once purple state, by a larger margin than Trump did - but noooooooooo you just had to get tricked by polls because they flattered you."

Desantis didn't blow it.

It's just that Trump's small base has a stranglehold on the party and anyone that enters the ring is a direct threat to Trump and must be destroyed.

Until Trump steps aside, this will keep on happening.

Like you can be the smartest guy in the room with the best ideas, but you won't win against a toddler.

You can sink to the toddler's level and attempt to engage them but it's a losing battle and it just makes you look petty.

But until the toddler leaves the room, the adults don't have a chance to accomplish anything.

Because that toddler needs to be the center-of-attention at all times and can't deal with everyone not giving them 100% undivided attention.

And of course all the adults are pushovers and too scared to remove the toddler to make them sit at the kid's table because it just starts another round of tantrums.

Let that sink in.

LOL I might be one of the few ARFCOMers that understands mathematics and statistics. It was said in jest but you know that.

One million actual percent more snark isn't going to get Ron the nomination though.

So even if Trump wins we get another 4 years of a Democrat running this Country.

TBH I blame Trump for carrying on like normal.
He owed us explanations and apologies.
He's not shown an ability to work with people who don't flatter him, and it's a horrible failing to have in a leader at this level.

He couldn't even decisively beat Biden in the Presidential debates in 2020.  When it comes to rational debate, Trump honestly kinda sucks.   He's great at giving soundbites and saying stuff people want to hear but he's not a deep enough thinker or reflective enough to consider potential flaws in his logic and prepare answers for them ahead of time.  Nor is he quick-witted enough to come up with those answers on the spot.

The thing is, he probably doesn't need to beat anyone in a debate to get the GOP nomination this go around.   The GOP is in disarray and he has the most cohesive and fired up faction in the GOP.  The rest is split amongst half a dozen or more candidates.  None of whom are mesmerizing.

I don't think he has a chance of winning the election.   But I think he's probably got a lock on the nomination.
