Though not quite as extravagant as checking into a space motel, booking a stay in the Hotelicopter is pretty stupendous. Hailed as the world's first flying hotel, the Soviet-made Mil V-12 has been extended and completely renovated since being purchased in 2004, and starting this summer, it'll host 18 decidedly affluent individuals on a fortnight long roundtrip jaunt that begins and ends in New York, stopping at Charleston, Freeport, Montego Bay, Santo Domingo, Nassau, Miami and Charlotte along the way. There's also a California and European tour planned for July, and the 'copter can even be rented out for what will undoubtedly be the zaniest episode of My Super Sweet 16 ever. There's no word on how pricey this five-star flying hotel will be, but if you have to ask, you probably can't even afford a walkthrough.

[Thanks, Kyle]

wow.

That thing is just asking for a terrorist attack. Who the fuck would think a giant ass Russian(of all things) helicopter would be safe to live on for days at a time.

Got to be an April Fools joke. All the pictures I've seen are CGI. I'd like to see an actual photograph, or run the N number or something.

That's the Mil V-12. Museum piece. See if you can find a shot of the current, as built/modified "Hotelicopter" which is a highly modified Mil V-12.

Indeed. Nothing luxurious about a helicopter ride - and a Russian-built one at that.

Doesn't pass the common sense test in a world of luxury airliners and well established runways everywhere. The novelty of being in a helicopter would go away, quickly.

Then again I hate flying, so what do I know.

Man, I love flying and this looks like a terrible idea. Very loud, limited luxury (luxury is heavy), fewer activities, helicopter=crash machine, more cramped than boat. I'm guessing the flights are a few hours at most and they spend their time at a particular location.

Or it's fake. Probably fake.

ETA: It's website says it has four GEnx engines of 75,000lbs of thrust a piece. That kind of power has to push this thing to a point where the rotors are going wayyyy to fast.

Saw that story a couple days ago. If I remember correctly, only two of those helicopters were built, one is at the museum, as you can see in the pics above. The other is supposed to be at a factory, just rotting away.
I call bullshit on this story. Google earth pic of other helicopter, and this one that is at museum would end this April Fools joke pretty quickly.

Gotta be a joke.

No way anyone would equate a helicopter with 5 star luxury, let alone something the Russians built

Even if that were for real I wouldn't get up out of the electric chair to ride in that thing.
