That may be, but if you come down here, you will need to bring about a gazillion bricks of ammo... there are a lot of birds!

HOUSTON...you have a problem!

Guys,

This is a perfect example of a local government entity gone insane.

Get this: Birds are swooping down and doing fly-by's on SOME pedestrians that walk near a tree where they are nesting. ONE dipshit lawyer gets so scared by the fly-by that he trips and get a teenie tiny scratch on his face.

Suddenly now the birds are "injuring" people. Local gubmint folks section off the block for "safety reasons" so they can "protect the public."

Think about this guys - this is insane. So a few birds are flying *close* to people. Big deal! Government steps in to "protect" us.

Just more Big Brother stuff from people that need some job justificaiton.

You are correct CMOS, but I still think getting rid of most of the grackles is a good idea. We have a lot of them here in Austin, too. Oddly enough, the ones around my house seem to be dying of acute lead poisoning.

Thats nothing. Boobies invade Florida every spring.

I hate grackles.

whats a grackle?

I find them quite pretty. That iridescent head catches the sun nicely. They can be a pain in numbers, though.

Yeah, but our Boobies never hurt anybody.

Lets say you go shopping and fail to realize that you are parking underneath a tree that the grackles will take over while you are gone. Here is what you come back to...

Its a large, black bird. Looks like a crow.

They are nasty.

Yes, the iredescent head makes a great aiming point When I was a kid the old man used to give me a box of .22 ammo( after the other work was done) and tell me he wanted at least 40 grackles/starlings/cowbirds by the time I finished the box. They got so thick some years I used to do what I called "Quigley" them over seeds I'd put out for them, I'd hide in the bushes and wait for a couple to line up, and put a shot through two of them.
I hate cowbirds worse though, frikken parasitic bastages

The grackels want bread.

They have no enemies, other than the rare human with a death wish. No bird of prey will attack them that I know of. There is a nest of Red Tails in my neighborhood yet the grackles still congregate in parking lots, making a mess of the area.

They try and get water from my dog's dish. That is when I get them with my air rifle...target pellets at 1100 FPS from my RWS 48 seem to do an excellent job on the nasty beasts. A good shot gets a handful of feathers too.
