I will be honest, I've never voted up till this year.  Here in Idaho we no only go Republican without blinking an eye, but our pathetic 4 Electoral Votes don't mean crap.

This year I think we might be in for something different though.  I honestly think this might be an instance of the Electoral College going against what we the people want.  I think that they few states that hold most of the votes will obviously go Hillary but, I really feel that there will be huge voter turnout for Trump in a lot of states that might not hold the Electoral Votes to matter.

What say everyone here?

I plan on it, but that wasn't the question.

In past elections, a candidate has won the popular vote but lost the EC so I could happen.

Ayup. It'll likely happen. People throw a fit and dick nose Paul Ryan will be like "we've saved ourselves from ourselves", and arfcom will throw a fit.

I'm just wondering how wide of a gap it would have to be before anyone actually took a stand?  Not talking about thousands of votes or 500,000+ like Al Gore but maybe a million or more.

Anyone who says they know what is going to happen is full of shit.

Half of them will guess right and November 9th is not going to be a tolerable day on this board.

Kinda doubt it this year.

What's interesting is to look at the 2008 and 2012 election results by county. Both are more red than blue, but 2012 was way more red. Yet we all know what happened. The other interesting thing is the blue counties are almost like an illegal immigrant migration pattern.

4 possibilities:

1. HRC wins both: media declares a mandate, 2A destroyed in 4 years or less.
2. HRC wins EC but loses PV: media (falsely) declares a mandate, 2A badly damaged in 4 years, SCOTUS declares it unconstitutional within 10.
3. Trump wins both: media declares that there is no mandate and Trump will be unable to get anything done.
4. Trump wins EC but loses PV: media declares him a lame duck before he's even sworn in. McCain and Ryan work with dems to pass only liberal laws.

Summary: I don't give a shit if you're in the most conservative state ever, get off your ass and vote. Get your friends / family to vote. It makes a difference regardless of what the naysayers suggest. Those naysayers gave us Obama.

In all but 2 states,  it necer reflects the will of the people.. Every state except Maine and Nebraska are winner take all.
In other words Hillary can get 51% FL but still get 100% of the EC votes.

He didn't have a majority, but he had 5 million more votes than George Bush in 2nd place.
Bush barely lost the popular vote in 2000, but won the electoral vote.

Republicans who want to go to popular vote over electoral vote are advocating slitting our throats. The OP probably doesn't realize that his state's 4 electoral votes make more of impact on the electoral vote than his state's population would on a popular vote. Idaho has 4/538 electoral votes or .7% of the electoral votes. Idaho has 1.2 million eligible voters out of 245.2 million in the US or about .5% of the popular vote. California on the other hand has 12% of the countries eligible voters, but 10.2% of the electoral votes.
