Homeowner Killed By Suspected Burglar
Man In Custody; Second Suspect Believed At Large

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The investigation continues Monday into the shooting death of a man inside a home in Sacramento's Arden Park area.



Authorities said a burglar broke into the home near Fair Oaks Boulevard and Eastern Avenue on Friday, ransacked it room by room, and then killed the homeowner -- possibly with his own gun.  

James Shanrock, 23, of Sacramento, was arrested in connection with the crime.

Investigators said Shanrock left the scene in the victim's car and that they believe there may be a second suspect in the case.

"In the residence, a lot of the things that were taken were heavy ... taken to the vehicle. To do that, we believe two people would have to complete that act," Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman R.L. Davis said.

Investigators also said Shanrock's own vehicle broke down and was towed from the victim's neighborhood Friday morning. Witnesses said Shanrock had a passenger in the car at the time.
