Supposedly a World Competition Shooter was handicapped and needed to hold his pistol sideways.

Since he had to use this method, he got pretty good.

Somebody picked up on it, and the rest is history........

Then the manufacturing industry pushed it, along with marketing...

I honestly think this is the answer, heard this from somewhere.

When an actor holds the gun sideways, you can see more of his face. It started simply for cinematography reasons.

Because that's the way they come out of the box.

The actors got tired of getting popped in the head with the brass from da glocks! yo

Lessens the chance of getting hurt by a Glock KaBoom.

Well, yes, actually I have, with my 92FS. Didn't work worth a shit. Of course, I couldn't aim because I was laughing my ass off at the time. I think if you were engaging a low, wide target (like a '78 Buick), it could be effective at a limited range. It just seemed so goofy at the time, though.

That way they don't have to roll the window all the way down.

In the Army a "Homeboy" tried to shoot the M9 like that at the range once. The range NCO actually hit him in the Kevlar. The a$$ chewing that ensued had the whole range laughing. The guilty shooter was a good guy, I just think Hip hop might have taken a bit of a toll on his young brain.

I just always assumed it to be laziness. It takes .0001% more muscle to upright the slide than to just let it lay on its side.

Same with langauge. Why say "The" when "da" will do? It's only .0001% more work to say it in the Queen's English, but if you shave off all that time saved, those home boys sure save a lot for their elderly years. If they don't get capped, that is.

It's not laziness, it's DISINFORMATION.

You wouldn't want them to learn how to really shoot, would you. Give the cops a break! Let them homies do their stylin'.

WE KNOW HOW TO SHOOT BACK - AND HIT OUR TARGETS!

someone mentioned that it arose from the use of german full-auto pistols (such as the BHP or the broomhandle mauser). The fastest way to spray a room was to hold the gun sideways, then the kick would allow you to sweep the whole room easily.

No idea whether or not this is true.

tried it with a 1911 just for giggles........was laughing my ass off so I didn't even come CLOSE to hitting anything except the berm.
