Hi friends.

I finally made it home from the Hurricane Rita evacuation. I was gone for almost two weeks. I live in Nederland, Texas, right between Port Arthur and Beaumont. Right where the hurricane came in.

The town looks like a disaster area. Which it is.

Lots of storm damage.

I lost my big tree in my back yard.

Notice how God kindly placed it right between my two out-buildings. It did not damage either one, but I did lose some shingles on my wood working shop. I also lost a small tree.

Had some damage to roofing shingles and my chimney on my house.

But nothing compared to many neighbors.

The biggest problem was my refrigerator that was full of rotting food for two weeks. (No power.)

Being an ex-Police Officer, I've smelled my share of dead bodies, but this was as bad as anything I'd ever smelled. I had some ground turkey meat in my refrigerator freezer in the kitchen. When I got home, there was a stench beyond belief and a dried pool of blood about 3 feet in diameter in front of my refrigerator.

I did my best to clean it up, but finally just hauled the refrigerator to the curb for the trash. It was hopeless.

I did manage to save my freezer, because it did not have any meat in it.

Here it is, on the driveway, after several washings with Clorox. The Box O' Truth is holding the door open for it to dry in the sunlight.

All in all, I am okay, my kids and grandkids are all fine. Could have been a lot worse.

I give thanks to my Savior.

I wonder if the shooting range is open?

Wow... good for you, it could have been worse. Get to shootin!

Glad you, your family, and your posessions are ok! Now get to the range and send us back a report...with pics

No box 'o truth in hurricane force winds? That would have been a neat test, with some good photos.

Glad to hear you made it ok.

Glad things didn't turn out much worse. Welcome home.

You know, I'm wondering whether you could make a REALLY big Box O' Truth out of that refrigerator? Glad you and your family are alright. MJD

Glad everything turned out okay, for the most part.

Good to hear everything is OK! Must of been a pretty nerve wracking 2 weeks. (I get pretty hinkey just being gone 2 or 3 days from the homestead)

The Hurricane O'Truth?

I've read of boards being driven through walls in storms. I bet I could have got some great pics.

But after seeing the damage done around here, I am glad that I was in central Texas.

Hi old buddy.

Things like this tend to put things in their proper perspective, if you know what I mean.

Stuff is just stuff.

Family is what matters.

How large a caliber round does it take to go all the way through a fridge?
Glad you and yours are safe.

That's great!

But he would find out that this is a "free fire zone" and I'm ready to repell borders.

You think they would have caught that guy by now!

If he ever really gets in front of the Box O'Truth, he's history.

Thanks!

The suspence was killing me.

Lots of folks have much worse to contend with. My prayers are with them.

Glad you are OK.

Now, just how many rounds downrange will that fridge try to repel? I think we need a report soon.

I'd have been glad to shoot the rotten refrig.

I only wish I had the technology to do a "Scratch and Sniff" to go with the report.

You guys would be amazed.

Glad everything came out well O_P

Did the "cane" get your patio furniture?

Or is it so hot in TX, that you only bring it out in the winter

Hurricanes are funny in that way.

I had 4 lawn chairs hanging on pegs on my patio. They were uneffected.

Meanwhile, a big tree was flattened like a giant stepped on it.

You never know.
