I was not part of the rescue team.

Survival of the fittest?

ETA: be prepared for a generation of retarded elk who seem to have a penchant for falling through thin ice.

And at that very moment, in a town not far away, a member of the most dangerous profession on earth shot a miniature poodle in fear of his life

Seriously... great seeing people like this put a little effort into doing a good thing.

We came across some elk that had fallen through the ice and got frozen in. The wolves then parted what was sticking out above ice all over the damn place!! What a frickin bloody snow/ice mess!!

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, but then British stodge food is often criticised.

Was mama near by?

We were duck hunting when we found her. We looked around for mom for a while after finding the little one. The banking where we could see mom had crossed got very steep just off the waters edge, so even if the baby got out of the mud, she wouldn't have been able to get up the bank. We ended up helping her back across the shallow river via canoe where the opposite side was more flat and we could drag her out. No easy task.

I would guess mom gave up and left her since the baby had obviously been there for quite a while. Shivering and completely drained. Didn't even try to struggle to get away from us. She would've died that night I am certain.

We waited for a while and helped her stand up so we could make sure she didn't have any broken legs or other injuries, she immediately collapsed so we covered her up with a bunch of tall grass to keep her warm, then came back to check on her the next morning and she was gone.

All we could do I guess, not sure if she ever found mom.

It could only be better if they let it get 200 yards away then shot it.

I think the date on the video said January 2011.

I wasn't part of the rescue, it just happened behind my place.

You'll have to clear out your elk traps a little earlier next time.

I had nothing to do with this rescue, but it happened right behind my place.

That elk is on thousands of acres of BLM property, nothing but sagebrush, his antlers will fall off in a month or so.

I would bet that he makes it.
