I know it was probably used long before I was here and will be around forever but, why?

The phrase seems so commie'd out to me.  

It just strikes me as a phrase you would see on DU.

I'm not on a campaign to end it or any thing I was just wondering if anyone else has felt the same way.

I believe it is also a reference to the Borg (from Star Trek), who "assimilate" people to their way of thinking, much like BRD (Black Rifle Disease) does to people that post on ar15.com.
