I was talking to a few other deputies and i was really surprised to found out very few keep a hidden cuff key. I thought it was rather common. SO how many of you hide a cuff key on your uniform? In your boot?keeper? etc? I have one behind the top lace of my boot and one behind a keeper. Just curious how common it is.

I have a couple.

Partial Hijak, but related:  Why do you have a hidden key?  Is it because you want to have a spare, or is it incase you are cuffed?

if your working around cuffs you need to have plenty of keys!
the quetion is can you get to your hidden key if your hands are cuffed behind your back?

Keeper on the back side. Keeper on the front side.

Plus one sewed into the shirt sleeve and one attached to the inside of my boot.

The only problem with the keeper hiding place is..it isn't a secret. How many guys have you seen wearing it with the key hanging out!
I like the boot lace idea.

And with people posting this on the Internet for all the "Turds" to learn.

Yes..

Bad guys do this too.

Yes, but with it out in the open, hopefully we all learn of the "tricks" and do careful searches of our prisoners.

On that note, I'll give you this one.  We had a guy with a razor hidden in the flap of his jeans that covers the zipper.  He just sliced one side open and slid the razor in.  Metal detector went over it and buzzed like it was his zipper.  Luckily someone thought to investigate the frayed section and found the razor.

You never see it or feel it and it's easy to get to.

Striker:

Somebody (ZAK maybe?) makes one that is made to slide over the female half of the snaps on the inside of a keeper. It doesn't show from the outside, except for a small part of the double-lock pin. And I think Safariland still makes the Hidden Keyper with the cuff key that swivels out from inside the keeper.

If you need the spare key because you're cuffed in the back, can you get to the key on the boot lace?
I've never tried that way, but it sounds like a good idea....

One of my spare keys is kept on the whistle chain that we are required to wear as part of the uniform.

That's just one of the three spares I have on my person on duty.

actually it's easy to access if you are on your knees. It's a lot easier since my boots have side zippers. Just untie the lace, unzip the boot and out she comes.I've practiced several times and it's not that hard.

Might not be a bad idea. I dont think it would work for me though. I have so much stuff in my trunk I couldntr stick a sandwich bag much less my 6'1 240#s.  I think I need a SUV for all my equioment.
