teaspoon or 2 of sugar. let it melt in your mouth, the sugar stimulates the muscle that is causing the hiccups or something like that. anyways it works.

Thats like half a beer!

I had sugar waiting in the wings mimi, I'm sure it would have worked too.

Thanks you guys. I had the squeaking hiccups.

The simplest and easiest and surefire way is to breath in as deep as you possibly can until your lungs can't hold anymore air. Hold it for a couple of seconds and exhale. They should be gone. Works every single time for me.

I didn't even know how to reply to that.

If I get the hiccups at a time, where i could try that...I will.

Good enough?

(1) Draw a big glass of water.

(2) Hold your breath (DEEP breath) for 15 seconds.

(3) While holding breath, slowly drink water. This remedy works very well.

Hiccups are caused by an irritation to your diaphragm. Most remedies try to fix this irritation.

Yup.  If you are impatient (I am and freaking hate hiccups) then take a couple deep breaths and then hold it and bear down like you are exhaling hard with your diaphragm.  For some reason the extra pressure seems to cure you faster.

1.) Get the sharpest longest knife you can find

2.) stick said knife into a fire until it is red hot

3.) insert knife into abdomen

4.) remove diaphragm

5.) bandage abdomen (why? I don't know!)

its the only way to be sure

I know I'm a little late here, but my lovely wife drinks water upside-down. That's right, bend at the waist...tip the glass to your UPPER lip, glug glug...no more hiccups.

You're welcome!

I put my head in a bucket of water and gulp.  50/ 50 , working.

If it doesn't work, I try to sleep anyway.   If I don't fall asleep,  the wife hits me with a 4/4. She wont mess with  2/4.

If the  wife has
Them , I try to get the good sex from her. Then she whops me on the head , agaian with the 4/4.

It's a totally differant feel.

Okay, I know I'm going to get ridiculed, but here goes.

A few years ago I had surgery, and in Icu I got the hiccups. Not fun as you can imagine.

A nurse came over and paced her thumbs on the ridge of bone over my eye sockets, just above the eyes. She pressed pretty hard for about 15 seconds, and the hiccups disappeared.  She said it's an accupressure point they learned about in nursing school.

I have done this to friends and family repeatedly with about an 80% success rate.

Kinds of reminds you of Spocks sleep hold in Stat Trek, but it works.

Take a tall glass of water and put a napkin or folded paper towel over the top of the glass.

Then just take one long nonstop sip of the water, it takes about 60 seconds for me.

 Never Fails

The general plan is anything that would disrupt the spasms of the diaphragm. Therefore, most remedies work for at least someone.

I do it simply by sitting quietly and meditating. I imagine a smooth wave of relaxation starting in my chest and slowly moving down. Invariably, hiccups are gone in one or two "hics". However, it requires one or two quiet minutes so it takes a little longer if I am doing something that requires concentration somewhere else, like driving.

If you do the work to get this method down, it is the best I have found. It doesn't require any other tools or implements and it works faster than any other method.

IIRC, the Guinness Book of World Records used to list the longest spell of hiccoughs at over 12 years, with tens of millions of "hics". People sent 60,000 suggestions for cures. The only one that worked was a prayer to St. Jude -- the patron saint of lost causes.

Good luck.

Gingers solution worked pretty quickly. (for me)

I just hate it when I get squeeky like that.
