I just tried to download Itunes to my laptop.  It downloaded completely and then a little box popped up and said, "The system administrator has settings that won't let you install this shit" or something like that.

It's my laptop, it has no system administrator that I know of.  If I'm the admin I'm adding that shit to my resume.

Question is, how the hell do I download and install I tunes.  I need to back up my phone badly.  I can't lose my contacts, because most of them are business numbers.

Please help.  I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, so you're probably gonna have to walk me through this barney style.

Thanks.

ETA:  How the hell do I backup my phone?  Itunes tutorial fucking sucks.

Dose your phone have a sim card in it? Dose it have a flash card you could transfer stuff to?

You could always use a pen and paper and do it the old fashioned way.

Right click on the file and select "Run as administrator"

I've got a hard copy of my contacts, but I add numbers daily, and it sucks to have to go through and sort which ones ive got written down already, and which ones I don't.

Plus I've got a quite a bit of music on my phone, and want to be able to back it all up to my computer.

Also, I've got alot of music of my computer, that I would like to transfer to my phone, or my Ipod.  Can't do any of that without Itunes.

Should be.

Can change the UAC setting under security (I just turn it off...I trust myself to install stuff...MS doesn't)

What OS?

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.

If you have Facebook you can just get on it on your laptop and click Account>Edit Friends>Contacts and all of your contacts are saved there.

I don't use iTunes nor an iPhone, so you'll have to consult this:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

Looks straightforward enough to me

You can manually back up or restore your iPhone or iPod touch from a
backup. To do so,  Control-click or right-click the iPhone or iPod touch
icon on the left side of the iTunes window and choose Back Up or Restore from Backup*:

Just plug in your iphone.

It stores a back up image.

If you never see the bar, click "sync".  (iTunes has a little media information window in the center of it's console).

It's not going to create a folder or an icon on your desktop called backup.  It just creates a simple image you can restore from the front page of iTunes.

Open iTunes.

Plug in iPhone.

It should prompt you to back it up.

You can select the individual tabs within iTunes to choose what's backed up and synchronized... music, photos, movies, contacts... etc.
