Seeking a replacement for the venerable M16 platform rifle the US Army has finally adopted a US Army specific variant of the Heckler & Koch 33 (5.56 Nato) rifle. HK designed this variant specifically for the US Army along the sames lines as the US Navy MP5N (Navy) model. The rifle was finally adopted after evaluations in the extreme environments of the Middle East and outperformed the HK G36 and HK M4 models which were also under consideration for adoption.

The variant differs from the standard HK33 rifle in that a 40 round magazine is now standard, replacing the 20 and 30 round magazines and the trigger pack is specifically configured for US Army forces.

Instead of the standard 0-1-20 or S-E-F trigger pack usually encountered on HK rifles the US Army Rifle HK33A (Army) has a S-U-O lower. The designations are as follows:

S - Stupid (Safe)
U - Unload (Semi Automatic)
O - Ooooooah (Full Automatic)

It is hoped that these new designations are useful in conveying to proper mindset to US Army forces serving in hostile envirnoments of the Middle East where they are currently operating.

Is this just something for limited use or what? The only HK firearm I thought were were looking at was that XM8 contraption.

I must say I prefer the looks of this weapon 10x over the XM8. But I don't get this at all.

Or is this just a joke altogether? With all the modular stuff we use, I don't see where you'd put it on that weapon.

The HK33/93 series was a total waste of space IMHO. I sold mine in record time.

Likely a joke. Twenty years ago it might have been true. But with modern requirements for weapons, this one just doesn't seem to have the goodies needed to mount all that stuff on.

Still, I would love to have one of those for my personal collection since my requirements are different than the US Army's.

What do you mean "suddenly"? US Army carried Krag-Jorgensen (Swedish), Springfield (a German Mauser to all extent and purposes), MP-5 (Germans), FN made M-16s, FN made M-249 and M-240 (Belgians).

Until I saw the trigger pack, I thought this was serious. As soon as I gazed upon the letters "S-U-O," I realized this man is BSing.

Yeah well, I don't have any experience with buying guns online. So since it's the internet... no further questions.

You are correct however, the German Army used the G3 and not the HK33. The HK33 was used by German Law Enforcement. I believe they also used the G3 as I recall pictures of an officer running with one during the 1972 Olympics (unless it was an HK91 but I would think it would be a G3).

Germany is a federation, so there was/is different equipment for every state/federal police force. For that matter, the HK33 was never used by any federal police unit, and I'm not too sure about state level forces.

Military style high-powered weapons are being frowned upon for use in regular police units. MP5s everywhere, but that's about it, except for SWAt teams of course.

The PC factor still plays a major part. For example, the HK21 (G8) used by the Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Guard) is a 'multi-purpose rifle', not a machinegun. hy.gif

Is the post ban Vector 33? If so how much?

I don't think ANYONE has a postban Vector yet. Course they've been availabe since February.

Last I heard they were still waiting on US barrels since they are laboring under the impression that it is illegal to have a foreign barrel on a 922r gun.

So all you guys with Romanian AKs, FALs with Steyr or Imbel barrels and G3s with HK / FMP barrels better get rid of your illegal guns.

If you take a close look you would note the grenade ring and flash hider, so no it isn't a postban from Vector.
