Thread pitch/sizes....

What do the numbers 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 mean?

Half inch O.D. and 28 tpi?
5/8 inch and 24 tpi?


There is no standard spec on the length?

Suppressors are either 1/2 x 28 or 1/2 x 32.

That's my two pennies. I don't know if the 1/2 refers to length instead of OD.

That'd be correct,  length of any threaded portion would be called out in specs/blueprints, as well as taper, etc.    (as in pipe threads, which are tapered)

.500 Diam x 28 threads per inch.  Od and number of threads per inch.
OAL would be any length you want

Be aware that the cross section shape of the threads is important - not all 1/2 -28 threads are created equal and will not interchange, for example.
