Hey
Turned on the desktop one day to find a Black screen that read

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

I have very little knowledge about computers so a friend suggests maybe its a bad drive. So I got one and put it in and I got the same Message but now when I press a key with my Windows 7 disc in it it reads it and takes me to the install screen for windows 7. I tryed to repair windows and that didnt work. Then I tryed to just put a fresh copy on and it prompts me to a screen saying  i need to insert the disc for the drivers for the new dvdrw drive I do and it scans it only to not find any drivers on the installation disc for the dvdrw.

Any ideas what to do now? Thanks

I have no idea what is wrong with your computer and it could be a fried motherboard. Here is where I would start:

Maybe there is a power fault somewhere in your computer from a bad connection.  Take the side off of the case and pull every wire and stick of ram out one at a time and put it back in. Wiggle them around when you do this to make sure that you are getting a good connection.  About half the time I see weird things like you are on other people’s computers this fixes it.

A windows 7 installation should never ask you for drivers for a DVD drive.  Try hitting cancel or something to get past that part of the installation.

Last thing, if neither of those two things work and it is still holding you up for DVD drivers, try unplugging the DVD drive and installing windows from a thumb drive. You will need one with at least 4 GB.  When you are done installing turn the computer off plug the DVD drive back in and it should work. How to set up a thumb drive for installation.

If none of that works, find a geek to look at it.  And not the kind that works at best buy either, those guys are crooks and don't actually know anything about computers.
