Got it narrowed down to 2...Needs to hold 16 long guns, which is about what these will hold I think...

Local gun store has this Winchester Ranger for $1k (cash discount) with MECHANICAL dial lock...

OR

Cabela's has a Liberty Pro Vault for $924 after shipping (in store pick up is about the same)...

The PROS of the Winchester - nicer safe, better fire rating, BUT it is heavy at 520lbs...which makes moving it hard.
ProVault - lighter at 320lbs...which is a plus for moving it around, but not for fire rating etc.

Whatever you do, get some "rifle sticks" to hold your long guns vertically.  They make access and usable space better. They are sold under several message these days.

Aren't Winchesters imports?

I'd buy American.

A heavier safe makes it harder to steal also.  I'd be more concerned with that then the one or two times you'll move it.  #500 is still pretty light but every little bit helps.  Bolted down is obviously the way to go though.

How is "easy to move around" a good thing for a safe?

I have the Winchester and love it. Not a safe expert.

Ha well I am going to bolt it to the slab...but I also like the sound of a lighter safe...500 plus is not too heavy but still makes for a pain to move into the gun room.

I've got the Winchester. You can get it at Tractor supply for $700 ish. The electronic lock failed on me in two(I think) years . Winchester had a new lock in my hands within a week.

Ah, I see yours has a mechanical lock....

It's alright. The extra weight is a GOOD thing.

After shipping? Or did you pick up at the store? That is about $400 cheaper than I can find for any Fatboy.

Check Costco. I've heard their Bighorns are good for the money.

I picked it up, they loaded it on my trailer for me and I had two friends meet me at the house. We strapped a furniture dolly to the bottom, tied a rope to the dolly and I pulled it and my buddies stabilized it as I drug it in. Had a 2'x4' piece of 3/4 plywood to get over the door ledge. It took us about 15min to get it off the trailer and in the house.

My Browning is over 800lb and the stack on I picked up at rural King is 605lb. Man up OP

The stack on was $899 regular price and the had it on sale for $599. The store is 4 miles from my house so I didn't have to pay any shipping. Too good to pass up.

Heavy is better IMHO. Get it where you want it and you're done.

I think the Winchester Ranger safe is honestly the best bang for my buck.

$1000 out the door...listed as a 1,400+ safe.

http://winchestersafes.com/product/ranger-26-gun-safe/

600lbs.
Continuous welds (not stitched)
28 gun capacity, meaning more like a 16-18 capacity tops...which is fine (I have a second cheaper safe for my cheaper guns).

The fatboy jr seems awesome..but I have no idea where you guys find it for $900...even on sale they are $1200 plus shipping or delivery.

My Liberty L-50 weighed about 1,200 pounds empty.  The professional safe movers who delivered it made it almost look easy, but they did have to take the molding off of the door of my Man Cave to get the safe in (with the handle and dial removed.)
