Looking to get the samsung 8500 curved, is it better than a comparable quality flat one?
Thanks

I have no proof one has a better picture than the other - but every time I've glanced at the TV dept and thought "wow, that looks great" it was a curved Samsung.

I can't explain why. But there is something that draws my eye to them.

But honestly, I'll probably get a flat TV.

I think curved is better but please dear God don't buy Samsung.  Unless you like having to opt-in to ads in order to use apps.

Apps?

If you're spending the money to get a bigass TV, hook it up to a computer instead of using the stupid clunky onboard bullshit.

You're both wrong.  It's Samsung!

I don't buy the hype of curved TV's.  I have looked and looked at the stores and I can't tell a damn difference...except that you can see a flat TV better at an angle...

Flat all the way!

Flat. I still think curved TV's are a fad and something we did, just because we could. They are not better than flat TV's for any of my needs.

The curved ones are pretty expensive.  They had such good deals during Black Friday and Cyber Monday we got a new Samsung smart TV.  Hear they also have good deals around the Super Bowl

I'd go flat. I second that the curve tv is just a fad like 4k

Samsung is the answer. We have 4 tv's 4 blueray players, stove, refrigerator, washer, soon to be dryer and dishwasher to complete the appliance factor.

No. I bought the JS8500 last year (Last year's was flat) and whether you get same TV in flat or curved- you will be happy with it.

Just looked them up, and the extra $300 in MSRP for a curved panel is a waste. Even review sites seem to cite it as a gimmick. That said, the rest of the TV is awesome! I love UltraHD Blu-Ray w/ 7.2 surround!

What signal source is 4K?  3D TV sure went extinct fast.

4K by itself isnt a big deal. Sure, you're doubling the total numbers of pixels, but unless you're feeding 4:4:4 source to it- who cares? Even UHD Blu-Ray, you're seeing 2x the number of pixels, but only half are getting their own chroma data...

To me the SUHD total package is what makes it. 4K + HDR =

I have one. The picture quality is amazing from almost any angle in the room.

I've had a Samsung 65" 8500 series for a month now, and I honestly can't tell the difference between the curved TV and my old flat one. 4K on the other hand is incredible.

Everything shot for Netflix has been in 4K for the last 3-4 years.

Most movies are shot in 5-6K.

I just got a 55 Samsung 8 series in flat. I couldn't jump to the curve TV as I thought it looked weird but in larger curve TV's 65"+ it looked really good.

Curved is for small spaces(apartments) and big tvs. If you have a decent sized room that you watch the tv in here's no need for the curved screen.

Step back from them in the store and look from your typical viewing distance and look at everything from there. I saw no need at all for the curved ones.
