Blackhawk for sure.  Kind of looks like Marine 1 (or 2).  Did they move to 'Hawks yet?  Some sort of ceremonial bird.

That's a UH-60 Blackhawk.

The marking is the Army unit insignia for "The Military District of Washington".

It's a  UH-60 Blackhawk with the MDW (Military District of Washington) Patch painted on the side,

Okay..this was taken on the South Side of Arlington Cemetery.  I was in the area of the Nurses Memorial and heard this helo coming in low..then it landed just on the other side of the fence.

It was followed by a black full size executive series and a black suv of some type...all with very dark windows.

Any idea?

This was in a public area in view of anyone who would have been in that part of the cemetery.  I was close enough to feel the rotor wash from it when the pics were taken.

BTW...it was taken on Sept. 11 at around 1pm(ish)

Davison Army Airfield

The 12th Aviation Battalion is MDW's aviation support unit. It is made up of three helicopter companies, a helicopter-maintenance company, base operations and a headquarters company. The battalion operates UH-1 "Hueys" and VH-60 helicopters in support of training and contingencies for the Old Guard and other MDW units. The battalion provides airlift to the highest levels of the Army and DoD. The battalion also operates a simulator facility at Davison. Active-duty, National Guard and Army Reserve pilots from five states get their instrument-flight training and maintain their flight records at the facility.

On order, Alpha Company, 12th Aviation Battalion conducts rotary wing aviation support to the Department of Defense and other agencies in the National Capital Region. On order, executes contingency plans in support of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington.

As the Command Aviation Company, C Company is responsible for the priority air transport of Congress, the senior leadership of the Department of Department of Defense and other federal and state agencies in the National Capital Region. In addition to the priority air transport mission, the unit also supports the military District of Washington's contingency mission as necessary. This demanding mission places a heavy workload on the unit's 35 authorized soldiers and 7 assigned rotary wing aircraft. The company is comprised of two flight platoons: The flight platoons contain both UH-60 and VH-60 helicopters, the 5 assigned VH-60 Blackhawks are specially modified and are the only aircraft of this type in the U.S. Army.

Delta Company's mission is to provide aviation-unit-level maintenance, intermediate-level maintenance and limited depot-level maintenance in support of battalion operations. The company has a long history of Maintenance Excellence awards and continually provide the highest quality of maintenance to the 12th Aviation Battalion and surrounding military installations. The work force is primarily civilian and is unquestionably among the best in the Army today. The company specializes in overcoming logistical problems, parts shortages, and special tools issues while continually providing the best maintenance and logistical support for Davison Army Airfield.

E Company, 12th Aviation Battalion conducts Airfield Service, Base Operation, and Air Traffic Control services in support of Davison Army Airfield and the Military District of Washington. On order, supports contingency plan operations within the Military District of Washington.
