It is a really simple task, and whom ever does it, it may take 10 minutes of your day. I would do it myself, but I no longer have photoshop on my computer.
My fiance's uncle is a Vietnam veteran. He has lots of stories about the horrors of war, and he shares them with me because I am one of the few who has intrest enough to listen Anyhow, the task I need help with is to photoshop the imperfections out of this picture. It is the one and only picture of Sonny in country. He said they had stopped for a short break, and one of his group snapped this pic. He is wanting me to have him a few 5x7s made. It would really make his day, and I would greatly appreciate any help that any of you masterful photoshop guys could give me. The pic, and also a link to it is below. If you PM me, I can give you my email to send it to me, or you can put it back up here, just try and keep the size large though. I am of to college now, but I will be back in a few hours. Sonny is the guy in the front of the photo. Direct link to pic |

Hey Silver-Gun_Superman,
Tell your uncle to be that we here at Arfcom appreciate his service to our country. And I for one would LOVE to hear his real life stories. |

Lookin' bettah already! Shouldn't be too tough to clean up the sky should it?

Wow guys! I am still at school, I just decided to check in. I am amazed by all the support! All of you guys are just awesome! As for a better scan, that is as good as it gets. This pic is originally a 4x4. I told him That even though it would not size to fit a complete 5x7, that is the largest size to go with and still maintain clarity. I will be back on about 9pmEST tonight. I have a calc test to go take Anyhow, Thank all of you again, and I will be sure to let him know how much everybody here appreciates his service, and how awesome all of you are to help! I'll check back in shortly! |

if someone has time to work with this....
the best way to fix the sky is to select the sky, feather it, and make a new layer via copy then blur the new layer then decrease the opacity of the new layer until it looks realistic then use the spot healing brush on the more difficult spots |
|
great tips, and great work by all the posters so far. and thank your uncle for his service. |

A big thanks to all you guys! I will let him pic the one he likes the best. I will show him the awesomeness of this site, although he does not know much about computers.
After I print it, I am going to specially frame him one up with a service pin and all. Of course, he does not know that yet. He served in 69-70. He started out in the Big Red One, but was later transfered to the 101st when he arrived in Vietnam. He never earned his wings though. He trained with the M-14, and wishes he would have been able to carry it rather than the M-16. He also carried the M-79 for awhile. He nicknamed it the "Pisstube", because he hated it. He finally suckered someone into taking over that duty. I know for some time he was stationed out of Firebase Tomahawk. He saw quite a number of friends killed over there. The guy he was closest to that was KIA was a fellow by the name of Pastor Ruiz. He still has a cross that Ruiz made for him while they were over there. Sonny has had a pretty rough life. He is a survivor though. He has had three heart-attacks and a triple bypass, but is still working. I am going to see if he will write out some of his stories. |

Damn Straight Brother......... That looks great........... |

not bad....but (not to be picky) you have to add noise/film grain back to the sky |
|
|
Thanks for the Kudos guys, and Nova, I wasn't even thinking about the noise filter. I'll add the noise and post that one instead.

The guy in the background, fix the blotch in his face. Great job BTW. |

If you can get to a Kinko's or know someone local with the original, scan it at a higher resolution.
There are some great examples posted above, but a higher resolution would yield a better print, and offer some artists more ability to work with it. Either way I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow and see what I come up with, though I doubt I'll have much better than on here. |

|
Why can't the OP get a higher rez scan? Take that photo to Kinkos to get it scanned.
