Here's what I want... .308 or 30-'06 bolt action with synthetic stock and blue/dark barrel. I will use it primarily for piece of mind, hunting Georgia whitetails, and picking off the occasional Chicom regular after the Chinese invasion of 2005. Optics are not an issue. I have narrowed down to: Sig Arms 970 SHR Remington 700 ADL Winchester 70 Savage 110(?) Any advice or experience you can provide is greatly appreciated. (Please keep suggestions in price range) Roy D.

I saw that savage scout for $399.00...nice rifle, but with that forward scope mount I would need to get a new scope. $$$ I went to Bass Pro Shops....Joker behind the counter was a flaming idiot!!!!

buy a savage tactical in a 308. the most accurate out of the box you mentioned. you can get one for under 400 bucks.

...Also..I hear Savage is very accurate out of the box. But that bolt sure is clunky. Maybe I am just being picky. I also thought the safety switches on the Remington and Winchester were noisy and had poor ergonomics. Add this... I saw a fairly new Mauser in 30-'06 for $389 it seemed pretty nice...whatchya think?

DICKS in Huntsville Alabama has the 110 Savage, scoped for about $320.

It's nice but heavy as hell with that bull barrel...I'd hate to haul that thing around all morning long!

Savage 110, toss a new trigger in it and still have leftovers for a scope
